The location is perfect but thats all.
Common areas are small so you have no place to sit same as the kitchen.
There is no wifi inside rooms
Its noisy during night
Bathroom is small and there is no place to put your things.
Its not dirty, but its not perfectly clean
I would not stay again!

Okay, not the most amazing hostel, but the staff are friendly, it's good value, and the beds are comfy, and the rooms have awesome names, and the bed names are even better. It's on the royal mile (obvs) so it's in a great location and I found it easy to locate from the main station. You can definitely walk from here to all the attractions around Edinburgh. There are several restaurants around but they're quite pricey on royal mile, try a few streets back and you should find some more reasonable places. Decent amount of nightlife walking distance from the hostel and I felt safe walking home in the early hours of the morning. I wasn't a huge fan of the bathrooms, the showers are quite cramped and there are only two for all the girls in the hostel, however I never had to wait for one.

My partner and I only stayed in the hostel for one night during the Edinburgh Fringe and Tattoo! We had a great experience, the hostel is easy to find, not too far from 24 hour car parks, it is central! On the same road as the Edinburgh Castle, and finally it was clean. I've stayed in hostels around the world and have to say this is one of the best hostels I've stayed in, it's homely and the staff are very friendly, happy to help you with your needs and will try to advise you if they don't know the answers to your questions.
Thank you for the great stay Royal Mile backpackers.

Room Tip: The cheapest rooms are the best - full of other travellers :-D

Stayed here with 2 friends for one night in March for a conference. Location was fantastic, although a little difficult to find at first - the doorway is tiny and up a flight of stairs! Had loads of character, friendly staff and decent rooms. Basically exactly what you expect of a hostel for bathrooms and breakfast, but it was great value for a tenner! Bring foreign banknotes to stick up on their walls ;)

While maybe not everyone's style, I found it the perfect cute little hostel. The rooms and beds are named, decorated and a bit quirky. Made for a very nice atmosphere, like staying a friend's rather than the uniform feel of some of the larger chain hostels. Only a small number of showers and toilets, however I never had to wait (but was only there for one day and that night). Everything clean and working. Each bed in my room had its own powerpoint which is rare enough to almost make you cry with happiness. Also in an excellent location in Old Town, easy walking distance from New and the train station.

Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms and bathrooms, don't have any complaints really. The rooms and beds have names instead of numbers and I wont say any so I don't spoil it but they're hilarious. Highly recommend it!

What an ingenious way the rooms are named! i was in Gotham City, and my bed said "Poison Ivy"! My friend was Batman! :-)
The first night, all of us were woken up by a fire alarm around 4 in the morning! Looks like it was someone drunk who caused it.
Decent rooms; the ones looking out to the street are way bigger and better.
Good WiFi, not enough bathrooms considering the huge number of backpackers this place has.
Staff quite friendly! Right on the Royal mile close to Tron church and easy to find.

Room Tip: Request for a room towards the street (the ones to the left of the corridor)
