A friendly and welcoming place with excellent food. The best cullen skink I have ever had but be warned not to ask for a full serving! I had a half portion and it was plenty even though i have a good appetite. The cakes looked good but I had no room left! On another day we went just for coffee/tea and the welcome was the same. A wonderful place. Can't wait to return next time we are in Edinburgh. A tip for customers - there is a free car park opposite the cafe though fairly hidden which means that you can go for a walk alonside the river either before or after lunch.

A lovely place to take out of towners or a friend for a catch up. The specials board is what you need to be checking out here...I had my best meal of 2012 here...a mushroom & goats cheese wellington with an onion soubise....OMG, awesome.
I'm just thankful I live round the corner.... :)

Exquisite food and service, ambience delightful too. It feels incredibly happy and jolly but not noisy and the tables aren't rammed together as is too often the case. You have to book far ahead as tables are greatly in demand, but it is worth it. This restaurant is expensive but you do get a lovely evening for your money. If you read good reviews of this place, believe them. It isn't hype.

We go here quite often and just love the food. The cakes are excellent as is the coffee and the atmosphere is always nice and inviting. I'd definitely recommend it for both visitors and fellow locals. Also, importantly, it's always clean and nicely presented.

As an Edinburgh resident I am spoiled for choice with restaurants but the Water of Leith Bistro is fabulous. Amazing food and so welcoming. I have a 5 month old baby and this was no problem. Amazing food and so relaxed just a great warm and friendly find.
