“Good, but not exceptional”

We were looking for a quick meal near the Haymarket Station, and the Cavalry Club fitted the bill. Food was good, portion size excellent and service adequate. I'd agree with comments elsewhere that the pickles with the popadums weren't very imaginative.
I'd certainly try it again, although you'd probably beable to find better if you search around.

“No where as good as before”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Having eaten at the previous location prior to the move and being very impressed we returned for another revisit some years later.

This restaurant whilst being a pleasant place to have a meal was just now another Indian restaurant. Their service was sufficient at best but far below the standard their pricing and history demands.

We took friends to celebrate their marriage recently and chose 4 starters then followed with 6 assorted mains. Complimented with white and red wine.

We eat a lot of Indian food and have to say that nothing served was remarkable and we have had equivalent quality and quantity at many other establishments for 1/2 the price.

Great place but not worth the money that they charge.

Disappointed in the overall delivery and will not spend the money again.
To many other good restaurants on offer at far better pricing in Edinburgh.

“Great food”

Recommended by the manager of our hotel. Great choice, not cheap, but excellent food, with a good choice of dishes, very helpful staff. As the saying goes you get what you pay for.

“Underwhelming and Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

We arrived at the time we booked and had to stand for 15mins for our table
We had to ask for poppadoms and the pickle tray was unimaginative - a bowl of onion with no seasoning; mango sauce and a basic yoghurt
Starter and main course was good but this is an expensive indian for what you get
There are better indian restaurants in the centre of town e.g. Ignite, Lancers etc
My mate who was there rated it 2 out of 5

“Oh Dear! Not What It Once Was”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

I first visited (for business) the Indian Cavalry Club in 1991 (previous building). I thought it was brilliant and went back a few times in the years that followed. First visited the "new" building 3 years ago with my wife for the first time. It was OK and she enjoyed it but it was far from what I remembered.

For my latest visit, service was slow and without any care (they were hardly busy either). The food was OK, but the high price was not reflected in the quality. Having been coming on and off for 20 years I think I will be looking for other places to eat in the future (of which there is a multitude).

I have also recommended and sung this places praises on many occasions to friends who were visiting Edinburgh – I will now stop doing this!
