Ok so I probably gave 3 stars due to nostalgia, I used to stay regularly at this hotel maybe 4 or 5 years ago and have recently been back.
So the good points-
The staff are fantastic, they seem like the only thing keeping the place together (literally) particularly familiar faces from the past like John the concierge and the restaurant team at breakfast.
I also particularly like the gym and pool area, however the male changing room is nothing short of disgraceful, it was always a very poor small space, but now even the lockers have doors off, hanging off or just don’t lock.
The bad-
The outdoor space at the bar is full of smokers, I know that’s like that everywhere, but the smoke funnels in the door to the bar and isn’t pleasant.
The rooms, this is the real problem, they are so old and tired, the décor is now so out of date, but worse is the air conditioning or lack thereof. There are AC units in the rooms, but the batteries are out of the remotes so you can’t use them, I assume as they don’t work. The windows are aluminium with kind of secondary glazing which open a bit, but there is no through draft, it’s weird, the rooms are so hot it’s almost like there is a heat source coming from somewhere 24 hours a day. There are fans in the room which is good, but when on you can’t really hear the TV.
Why no electrical sockets near the bed or better still USB sockets?
As I say I like this place and I like the staff, but it has the feel of absolutely no investment in years and the operating company/ management just milk it till it’s done
