Recently stayed here for 4 nights. Checked in early after a red eye flight. We were exhausted and needed to sleep. Right when we got in our room we noticed the fan like everyone else and got stuffy room. Air did not work like everyone else has been saying. I realize it does not get very hot in Scotland but times are changing and we were there when it was in the 80s.

I asked to change rooms right away but was told none were available. Not having air is not. Ehotiable to me. Cannot sleep in a room like that. Clearly after reading these reviews, I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s 2019, air needs to be working in their guest rooms.

While trying to sleep after our flight at about 11am, one knock on the door and an employee walked in right away. Didn’t even give us a chance to get out of bed to get door. Very awkward and uncomfortable experience. I was told they were checking if room was clean. Obviously some communication was dropped that we were in the room. Luckily I asked about air and they suggested we get a portable air conditioning unit which was eventually brought to us. Not sure why the desk couldn’t do this? Although it wasn’t ideal, it was better than no air.

The pluses to the hotel was 5mins drive from airport and 100 link bus stop right outside of hotel. I’ve stayed here a few times before and enjoyed it. But honestly if the air conditioning situation doesn’t get fixed, I wouldn’t plan on staying here again.

Dear Laura
Sorry to hear about your recent experience at the hotel. Unfortunately we were not in a position to move you to another room as we were fully booked.
Kind regards
Bart

We had the misfortune to be moved to this hotel when our booked room had “ a fault”. Didn’t get here until 1130pm and even though we were told that the original hotel had contacted this hotel , on arrival we had another delay as the person on duty had not received an email to confirm the change. This was added stress to the stress we had already experienced so late at night. Our room was of a good size but dated. The a/c / heating unit was noisy and the tall fan in the room was pretty useless. The window opened a little but was of a velux type and not being the tallest of people, made it impossible for me to open or close. Fortunately my husband could manage this but in addition there are no curtains which close so as soon as it is daylight then the room is also bright. Not conducive for a good night sleep when I want to wake of my own accord! There was only one tea bag in the room which was okay but showed a lack of checking by housekeeping. Breakfast was a good selection and the staff there were polite and helpful as was the receptionist on check out. However, for the cost which seems to be charged, I think the hotel fails in some basic things eg phone sockets ( or even enough sockets).

Visiting Scotland first time ever. First stop after the airport. Arrived about 10am hoping to at least drop off our luggage. They had a room ready and we got in. Amazing and accomplished staff. So appreciate it. Lovely hotel, great staff and great food. The
patio area is cozy and welcoming. Will come back to stay on the back end of our trip before leaving for the US.

We are a group of two families (3 toddlers and four adults). We checked in early in the morning and the rooms were not ready. When we arrived, the kids were hungry and we went to the restaurant (which was empty by the way) the hostess received us and asked how many people?...7, so she said: let me see if we can receive you because we have a large group ahead you. She came back and she said sorry we do have a large group and we are not able to serve you. We said ok so sit us separately. No we are full capacity. Ok never mind we just want food for the three kids, they are starving. And her final answer was we can’t, we are at our full capacity. If this was true, why even bothering receiving guests? Close the restaurant or say to everyone that enters we are sorry we can’t serve you even though the restaurant has a lot of empty tables. We went to the bar and nobody even care to ask what we need we practically had to drag a waiter to the table. Awful experience and WE BOTH ARE BONVOY MEMBERS. Here is the full capacity experience, check it out!

Dear 131erickaf
Unfortunately out check-in time is from 3pm onwards. The restaurant had places reserved for a function and hence is why we could not accommodate your family at that specific time.
Kind regards

Ok so I probably gave 3 stars due to nostalgia, I used to stay regularly at this hotel maybe 4 or 5 years ago and have recently been back.

So the good points-

The staff are fantastic, they seem like the only thing keeping the place together (literally) particularly familiar faces from the past like John the concierge and the restaurant team at breakfast.

I also particularly like the gym and pool area, however the male changing room is nothing short of disgraceful, it was always a very poor small space, but now even the lockers have doors off, hanging off or just don’t lock.

The bad-

The outdoor space at the bar is full of smokers, I know that’s like that everywhere, but the smoke funnels in the door to the bar and isn’t pleasant.

The rooms, this is the real problem, they are so old and tired, the décor is now so out of date, but worse is the air conditioning or lack thereof. There are AC units in the rooms, but the batteries are out of the remotes so you can’t use them, I assume as they don’t work. The windows are aluminium with kind of secondary glazing which open a bit, but there is no through draft, it’s weird, the rooms are so hot it’s almost like there is a heat source coming from somewhere 24 hours a day. There are fans in the room which is good, but when on you can’t really hear the TV.

Why no electrical sockets near the bed or better still USB sockets?

As I say I like this place and I like the staff, but it has the feel of absolutely no investment in years and the operating company/ management just milk it till it’s done
