“Nice Hotel Within Walking Distance of Edinburgh's Attractions.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2010

Nice hotel just off the hustle bustle of Edinburgh’s main streets but well within walking distance of all of the great things to see and do.

Hotel is very well kept with restaurant and bar available. The staff were extremely helpful during our stay, from booking us taxis, to advising on places to park depending on your length of stay. On the subject of parking, please note the hotel does not have parking on location, but has a discounted rate with a near by public car park (Riego St) less then 5min walk away. On street parking is available just outside the hotel entrance but spaces are a rarity.

Room was spacious and had all the usual amenities you would expect from a hotel in this price range. Free Wi-Fi is a bonus as most UK hotels charge for this. Room service is 24hrs that also can come in handy. If you’re a light sleeper then a room away from Lauriston Place is recommended as it’s a main route for people after a good night out on the way to taxis and bus stops.

Location is handy as everything is within walking distance whether you head down Lothian Road towards Princess Street where shops, pubs, and restaurants can be found around the area. Or head the other direction towards the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle that is a popular tourist area to explore.

Overall a handy hotel in a fairly central location that isn’t too expensive.

For the price I was expecting a real dog of a place.

It was actually very good. Good sized clean rooms, comfortable bed, good sized bathroom.

Hotel is about 10 mins walk from Grassmarket, £5 taxi ride to the Castle, £5 taxi ride to Princes Street. Obviously if it was right in the centre I would have had to pay a premium.

Genuinely impressed, would stay again if I went to Edinburgh.

We stayed in this hotel only over night, we came around midnight, the guy at the recption was nice.
The room was very nice, modern as well as the bathroom.
The restaurant was quite small for the breakfast but alright. We left in the morning so we didn't have time to enjoy the hotel.
There was some problem with the paying, my boyfriend paid by card and the first transaction failed so he had to try one more time but then at home he found out they took the payment twice. They were very sorry and of course send the payment back immediately.

We stayed here in March '10 for a weekend, choosing this because of price and proximety to the centre of town. Hotel is modern, and the room we stayed in was a disabled access room so was larger than normal. The mattress being a bit worn was the only bad bit.

Aprox walking distances are:
castle - 10 mins
princes st (high st) - 20/25 mins

get the Airlink bus to/from the airport for £6 return, getting off at the west end stop, which leaves a 10 min walk to the hotel.

We found the hotel quiet, we stayed midweek. It was clean and as I expected for a 3 star hotel. The staff were polite. We never ate in the restaurant or visited the bar as it was always empty when we passed.
The hotel has free wi-fi which was useful.
It's not far to walk to the castle or Princes Street although it is in the old town.
We had got a good rate from lastminute.com and think the hotel was very good value for money considering what we paid.
The only problem we had was that our room was far too hot at night, and I found the bed very uncomfortable - but I guess everyone has a personal preference so this may not be a problem for you,

I stayed here on business as I was looking for a good value, centrally located hotel. Check in was fast and efficient and the room was clean, comfortable and well kitted out. It, and the bathroom were spotless, it had a trouser press, tea and coffee and a flat screen digital telly. Very comfortable indeed. The bed was excellent quality and I had a great night's sleep.

Despite being centrally located (only a few minutes walk from Princes Street), the room was well insulated and quiet.

But the outstanding element was the staff. In a world where all too often, staff are uncommunicative or 'going through the motions', it was refreshing to meet people who seemed genuinely interested in the job and the customer. I was made to feel thoroughly welcome and all the staff I met were engaging and friendly.

Breakfast was first class - plenty of it, really good quality, and the waitress was a real credit to the hotel - welcoming to all guests, very friendly and efficient and clearly engaged in the business.

Parking is limited but this was ok for me as I had travelled by rail and walked from Waverley Station - about 10 minutes' walk.

Very happy to recommend and next time I'm staying in Edinburgh, it will be my first choice.

We arrived to this hotel after a short walk from train station to be greeted by a very friendly host where nothing was to much trouble for her.She asked if it was our first time to the city and we said yes so she suggested the best places to visit and the best places to eat and have a drink and also provided us with a detailed map.Would recommend taking the bus tours and visitng the Royal Brittania and of course the castle.Room was very comfortable and very clean.Circus casino is a short walk away and the food was excellent value for money and a good night was had.Breakfast was good and again nothing was too much trouble for staff and the scottish breakfast was lovely. On departure are train wasnt till early evening so our cases and personal belongings were looked after in a locked secure room behind reception when we collected them they even booked our taxi to station.A pleasure to stay there well done.
