Very clean & relatively quiet considering its city location, good sized room, delicious breakfast and helpful staff.

Would have been good to have a fridge in the room but staff were helpful in supplying ice bucket to keep cartons of juice we had purchased cold.

It's a 15 minute walk to the city centre, but there is a nice old town eating area a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, and an ice cream from Mary's Milk Bar on the way into the centre is a must!

On our recent trip to Europe we stayed at this lovely hotel, just a few minutes walk from some of the cities main attractions, the hotel has a distinctive exterior and a modern contemporary interior, the staff were excellent and most helpful when it came to showing us what the best things to do were in the city, we would recommend this hotel to anyone, its stylish and relaxed and at a very reasonable price too!

Dear patrick k,

Thank you for your kind review of our hotel. It was pleasing to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you felt it represented value for money, especially as you were probably staying in a number of hotels during your travels through Europe.

Many thanks for your recommendation and I hope your other destinations proved similarly enjoyable.

Kind regards,

This Hotel is central located. Our room Nr. 312 was very noisy of traffic. Even when you close the windows. It was clean and furniture and bathroom were
new renovated. I can recommend the Edinburgh City Hotel if you get a quiet room.

Dear gpollner,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for leaving a review. I appreciate your balanced feedback and it is pleasing to hear that you enjoyed the standards of our rooms and would recommend our hotel. Obviously it was disappointing to read that you felt your room was noisy. All of our rooms have secondary glazing to try and minimise any noise disruption from the outside world. However, Edinburgh is a very compact city and due to our city centre location a little noise is inevitable no matter which hotel you choose, unless they are located outside the centre of Edinburgh.

I hope you had a pleasant time exploring our lovely city.

Kind regards,

Good location and decent room except that it has two twin beds shoved together. Never understand why euro hotels don't catch up to the rest of the world and have king or queen beds for couples. Tired of my feet hanging over the end of the bed as well. Real size beds for real people please Breakfast was good nice staff

I always look forward to staying at this hotel. The welcome, staff, rooms and food are excellent. This is probably due to the superb hands on management and their ability to keep well trained staff some of whom have been with the hotel for 8 or 9 nine years which is unusual in the hospitality sector. The freshly cooked breakfasts are a real treat and served by happy staff and dinner was really delicious, their chef really knows how to tempt the palate. I stay here every year with a regular group and their stay is always the best in their tour of the country. When we get to our London hotel they always say 'oh I wish we were back in Edinburgh'.I also stay here for personal use as the hotel is in a great location if you are doing anything in the city. I cannot praise this hotel enough for their standards of care to visitors.Well done David and your excellent hotel team.

Our family of five stayed in two rooms for two nights in this hotel. It is better than average but not really "very good". The staff members were really helpful and the rooms were relatively clean. The beds were comfortable, but the duvets were too small for two people sharing. We ended up on the first floor in the disabled rooms for some reason so it felt more like staying in a hospital than a hotel. This feeling was underscored by all the historic photos on the walls showing that this property was formerly a maternity ward. The traditional Scottish breakfast was a little too traditional for my taste and the continental buffet did not really have much to make up for it. The hotel was about a 15 minute walk from the castle/Royal Mile area. It wasn't inconvenient but felt a little out of the way. The easiest way to the hotel from the airport is by taxi. This was not expensive and thankfully the taxis in the UK have room for five. This is a fine place to stay for a short visit, however I would like to try someplace else if I were to go back to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor.

We stayed here right after staying in London, and our room was easily double the size. Everything was clean and well kept, but the hotel could use a spruce up of the common areas. Don't let that stop you though, this is a nice property. It's just a few blocks form a market, and a few more to the grass market, with a whole lot of pubs. You can walk to Edinburgh Castle (highly recommended!) the Royal Mile, and the Gallery.

The best part of the hotel is the breakfast- excellent food and fresh espresso! The bar also has a dram of the month for 2.50- cheapest whisky in the city.

Dear markafeit,

Thank you for your kind comments having stayed with us last month. It was great to read that you loved breakfast each morning and also tried the malt of the month offer we have in the hotel. It was also very helpful of you to point out how well situated our hotel is for the Castle and the Royal Mile: we are very fortunate with how well positioned we are for all the local attractions in Edinburgh and we are also only a 7 minute walk to the EICC and a 15 minute walk to Princes Street.

I hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels in Scotland!
