“Avoid this place, there are better Holiday Inn's in Edinburgh”
Reviewed May 23, 2010

Stayed here for 1 night, mainly for a night out in Edinburgh. Firstly I had real trouble locating the hotel, found it eventually and parked up - there is free parking which is good.

Checked in, found out that there were not enough towels and mugs in the rooms matching the number of guests. The phone in the room did not work during the whole time I was staying there - despite reporting it to reception.

For everything I then had to go to reception, the staff there were clueless, had no idea how to run a hotel. I had to go twice before any towels arrived at the room...

The ice machine wasn't working, in fact nothing much was working. The manager had an apologetic attitude, but wasn't prepared to compensate for the fact that he was running some kind of poor quality 1 star hotel and selling it at a brand name and 3 stars....

Definitely one to avoid if you can, its really nothing special... Very poor service lets this place down....

Hi guys,

Stayed here during the rugby wknd. Had a mini suite room which was of good size but very run down in decor etc. Had horrendous noise issues above on both mornings of stay as carpet fitters above which we were not told of before, during.
Only found out at checkout.........................mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Had breakfast in room first morning, poor service, quality and items wrong or missing.
Next morning breakfast better in main eating place, although if you want eggs they do arrive whilst you are eating your cereal?!.......................mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Had a quick one course lunch, tasteless and unapplealing, had a nights cap later, the most cheapest and petrol like brandy I have drunk in a UK hotel. When I say cheap the cost was certainly not, furthermore the 20% discount of being a club member was not adhered to?
Finally got a late check out until 2pm, the lady whom organised it at check in then tried to get us out at 12pm?
All in all could and should be better.

Stayed over rugby weekend - possibility not most discerning of occasions. Pleasantly surprised however by comfort, appearance and quality. Previous impression of Holiday Inn was dull, standard 3-star operation in UK. Room was light, spacious and clean. Bathroom was 'compact', but adequate. Public rooms have been renovated to very acceptable standard - bar/restaurant area also. Hotel situated in quiet area, probably one mile from town. Transport is adequate - frequent buses to town from right outside the hotel or modest taxi fare. Overall, hotel delivered more than I had expected - no qualms about staying again.

We didn't have any expectations about this hotel, we just wanted it to be OK. We were surprised, because the rooms are really confortable, and the bathroom is big and warm. Staff was very nice with us, and we had a very good stay.

Although the hotel is located out of the city center, it's only 15 minutes away by bus, which goes every 10 minutes.

The only bad point is the restaurant, that doesn't have many options of dinner, and prices were above average. On the other hand, breakfast was excellent.

Arrived at the hotel late afternoon and check-in was completed quickly and efficiently by a very friendly member of the reception team.
We checked into Room 511 which afforded a panoramic view across the city towards Edinburgh Castle which is illuminated at night.
The room was adequately furnished with tea and coffee making facilities available. Bath with Shower above and an adequate supply of complimentary toiletries.
We had an excellent 3 course dinner in the hotel restaurant. Service in the restaurant was exemplary and exceeded our expectations.
The hotel is only a few minutes drive from the city centre with all its attractions.
Free parking is available at the hotel.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the city.
We will look forward to staying at this hotel again the next time we visit Edinburgh.

Just spent 2 nights at this hotel situated on the Queensferry Road about 11/2 miles from Princes Street. Although not in town, it is in a lovely residential area opposite a shopping mall and on the No. 41 bus route which runs regularly and you can get an all day ticket for £3 on Lothian buses or you can walk which takes about 25 minutes. Booked a double/double room and were given room 614 with great views over the city and the Forth - on one day we could see as far as North Berwick. Room and beds comfortable although bathroom very small and could do with a little TLC but shower good and hot. Cannot comment much on the service as only slept and showered at the hotel but the Reception staff were friendly and efficient. Great value at £90 for two nights for the room so no complaints about value. One point to note however for the hotel management is the state of the entrance to the hotel covered in cigarette butts and litter - first impressions do matter and the message this sends out is not one which hotels can afford.

The service here is really poor. I realize we stayed over the new year's eve holiday but the hotel should have had better staffing at night. There was only one person at the front desk and so it took a look time to check in. As others have mentioned the restaurant is very expensive. On top of that the quality of the food was poor and the service was even worse. The front office staff wasn't very knowlegable and so this was an issue. It was disappointing the hotel didn't have a pool or fitness room.
