A really excellent lunch in a great wee place. Not pretentious, slight rustic, food really good, nice friendly service. Even mamaged to accomodate a couple with a small child and a buggy which was quite a feat in quite a small place. Highly recommended.

While visiting Edinburgh we stayed at the George hotel a they highly recommend the Marlayne and spot on. One of best we have eaten at in all of our travels which encompass 2.7 M M miles on delta alone. A small treasure hidden away on Thistle Street. The hotel suggested reservations since the waits can be long (1 hour). The food was excellent and the chef we'll trained. Not to expensive or even very reasonable. Don' miss it.

Went for dinner with friends on a weekend night and enjoyed thoroughly.

Starter (scallops) was excellent, main (rib eye) was slightly over-cooked but still enjoyable. Sides were excellent as was the wine list which was very reasonably priced.

Service was attentive and friendly throughout and meal was good value. Would definitely go back.

Make sure you book though as lots of people had to be turned away due to how busy it was.

We (3) think we found one of those places that you find occasionally without advertising and treasure.
Yes, there are two choices of venue now under the name.
We ate in Thistle Street last Sunday after booking a table earlier personally.

It deserves a look inside and is under-stated in appearance.
Small kitchen and probably about 30 covers. Busy, but not hurried.
The menu is changed daily. Properly trained cook here.

We began to eat a couple of hours before the spectacular Fireworks on the Esplanade at the end of of the Festival.
Immediately served with a carafe of water and bread.
The food was delicious, steak, duck and fish, a sole, cooked perfectly. Sauces were classic and authentic down to the beurre noir.
The same veg accompanied all dishes. Just great carrots, haricots verts and gratin dauphinois
Puddings were a treat.
Wine was very reasonable
Worked out at £20+ each in total for a memorable 2 courses.

Tried this for lunch and will do dinner next time. Openning hrs for lunch a little restricted this was my 2nd attempt to get in. The menu was good with a broad selection for all tastes. Service was very friendly and added to the lunch. Atmosphere was very relaxed. There isnt a great deal of space and tables are a little close together. Wine list was adequate. The food when it arrived was kind of rustic very in keeping with the decor. Will be a regular for me.
