“Actually brilliant”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

The hotel is sited above a bar which I did not realise when I booked but this was not a problem at all.

The bedrooms had no noise from the bar below, you could not tell even though the bar is very busy and lively.

The rooms were spotless and ultra modern, there are GHDs, hairdryers, an ipod dock that links to the bathroom, a HD tv, great tea and coffee facilities and really does feel really swanky.

The staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly and were accomodating to my strange requests.

Cannot wait to come back.......

I reviewed this hotel some time ago, when the rooms were old fashioned, charming and individually themed. The rooms are very different now, and they have been renovated to an extremely high standard, with a modern boutique feel. Very, very high quality for the price. The staff, as before, were lovely and friendly and the location cannot be faulted.

My only negative note is that the room contained a price list relating to any items you "took" from the room (from bathrobes to hair straighteners to the whole wardrobe) which may or may not have been written tongue in cheek. I don't take things from hotel rooms unless they are clearly marked as complimentary, so I actually found this mildly offensive. I appreciate the problem that hotels face with things disappearing, but in this case it actually makes you do a quick inventory of the room to ensure that the stuff is actually there, less you be falsely accused. Also, we didn't know if the water outside the mini bar was complimentary or not, and didn't want to be charged £5 for it. Even the Tunnocks caramel wafers remained untouched in case they later appeared on the credit card bill. It's a real shame that they've done this, as it is a jarring note which shows a lack of class. My advice would be - don't spend all this money on these fantastic new rooms and then go and spoil it with a cheap and nasty way of insinuating that your guests have sticky fingers. Cameron House have far better extras in their rooms, and they don't stoop to this.

Otherwise a fantastic little hotel.

Thank you for your feedback. It's fantastic to hear you were impressed with the new standard of rooms.

I appologise for the price list offending you. The purpose is simply a guide incase you wish to purchase item's in the room, which many guest have done.

Thank you for your kind words about our staff, and we hope to see you again soon.

This was our second stay at The Bank Hotel, and we have enjoyed both our visits. The hotel is located in the center of town; you couldn't ask for a better location. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Currently the hotel is being renovated, and the quaint old rooms have changed drastically. They are very comfortable. The beds are especially cozy. When we visited, the hallway was undergoing serious construction work, but it did not interfere with our visit. The breakfast, which is included in the stay, is filling and tasty. A good value, and a fun place to stay.

Had a lovely overnight stay here. The staff were lovely, the location is right on the Royal Mile and the room was superb. They were still tiling the hallway when we arrived, which made me a little nervous, but when I opened the door and saw the room I was over the moon. Beautifully done out, huge bathroom with massive tub, big room, massive bed and lovely little touches like GHD hair straighteners just really made it. So many pubs and restaurants within walking distance. The wind whistling down the mile woke me up - but probably not a lot they can do about the weather!

I would definitely recommend this.

Want a location that is right in amongst it look no further! Easy walking distance to all major attractions. Use the open top bus tours to access others such as Royal Yacht Britannia and the Botanical Gardens.
Our recently refurbished rooms (2 rooms for 2 couples) were of a very high quality. The stairways were jn the final throws of refurbishment and although initially off putting, this had no negative affect on our stay. Actually the builders were most social and jovial!
Our breakfasts were just what was needed to set up our days. The downside that some people experienced was noise. Yes, there was some noise as this is as said, ' in amongst it,' but we all had three good nights sleep and I was refreshed enough for 4 miles scenic exercise prior to breakfast.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
There are a few little things still to sort such as a jug for milk and some Sky tv issues but I'm sure once refurbishment is totally complete, the hotel part of the Bank will be worth another visit, Edinburgh certainly is!
The pub below is also very popular but doctors orders currently direct no alcohol.

I stayed here for just one night but booked it because it had a bar which looked good on the photos. The rooms have just been decorated and are very mordern and excellent. The bed was amazingly huge. They are currently decorating the hallway so it was a bit messy but didnt bother me at all. Pub downstairs was good and staff friendly.
Overall I am returning to Edinburgh in Jan and will be booking here again.
