The last time my room had a good day was sometime in 1982!

Ancient decor, no window lock, dodgy door lock, dysfunctional lighting, decrepit beds, limescale ridden bathroom (grout pens are obviously very expensive) and a musty smell. The staff were polite but not helpful and about the only good thing you can say about the place is that the shower had good pressure, the room was clean, and the Wi-Fi was free.

If you're stuck (as I was) then it's a roof over your head, but otherwise it should be avoided, prices were a total rip off and there are B&B's in town with nicer rooms for half the price.

This hotel was very run down, cold, no hot water in the sinks in the bathroom and the shower walls were black with dirt. The double room was tiny like a shoebox. The breakdfast service was awful the staff could hardly understand or speak any Engligh. We sat at breakfast and waited more than 30 mins to be served until finally we had to stop the breakfast staff and ask for our coffee. Her attitute was awful to a paying guest. We were also told that we did not pay for a cooked breakfast even though our receipt said Bed and Breakfast there was nothing on our receipt to say we were only entitled to the continental breakfast. Whilst I was complaining about the service to the receptionist she answered the phone and started another conversation. How rude never mind the bad customer service. The manager of the hotel was not interested in our views regarding the room and service. I will never return to this hotel, worst ever.

Although the decor is out dated, this is good value for money. Rooms hava a wardrobe, desk, TV, Kettle and en suite with Shower ( no bath), there is also the choice to pay extra for breakfast. There is also Room Service available.

Free Parking is available outside the hotel on a weekend but first come first served,(used by Permit holders on weekdays). There is a £10 parking fee on the Hotels own Car park.

Great Location, a quiter part of the City, but about 2 minute walk from the first bars and shops. Its around a 6/7 minute walk to the High Street and castle.

Would definately recommend, especailly for £42.

The hotel is very tired and run down. The staff at Breakfast speak very little English and are confused about marmalade! I stayed in room 234 and there was no hot water in the shower. If you are staying make sure you test this before accepting this room
The saving grace is Stuart the night porter (on duty Friday 21st September) - excellent customer service, clearly likes people and could not do enough to help. His five star approach has saved this review from being terrible.
Good location from the train station and centre of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel and check the shower has hot water. Accept Jam is all you will be able to have with your toast for breakfast - Marmalade is far too complicated! Beds very comfortable

I found this hotel to be good value for money. Was in ideal location for all bars and walking distance to shops. We were lucky to get free parking outside the hotel, and overall very happy. Would go back again.
