“Awesome breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

We stayed for 3D2N and don't really enjoy the hotel stay provider it name is Hilton. The room is so cramp with so big tv cabinet & no window for outside view. Very disappointed with the shower pressure, take very long time to finish a bath. We only enjoy the breakfast very much. Location not so convenience cause of the tram construction going on.

classic style hotel, well-suited for business but also for vacation/sightseeing, very close to the Edinburgh-haymarket train station (and surrounding pubs) and also in 5-10 min walking distance to the Edinburgh conference center. During my stay the haymarket region was confusing due to major construction work, but within the hotel everything was nicely quiet. The room had a very large desk, comfortable furniture, and a well-equipped bathroom (except one thing: why does Britain still stick to separate hot and cold water taps, that's so ineffective...). Breakfast was excellent. The service at the reception was a bit varying between some very friendly and some not so helpful people. Internet at the room was quite expensive and even then not working properly. Apart from that, it was a very nice stay for an excellent price (compared with surrounding hotels).

Situation near Haymarket station is convenient however as noted elsewhere vehicle access (no hotel parking) is currently challenging as Grosvenor street is blocked off for vehicles at the Haymarket end. Facilities are as they should be at this level and staff are generally helpful - but not all - if at first you don't get attention try again!

As others have noted it is a conversion of a row of houses on two sides of the street. This engenders compromises but some rooms are excessively limited and have no room to swing a cat, others are clearly better. There are steps everywhere and some will find challenging.

Food is acceptable but uninspiring. The breakfast buffet would not stand up well to comparison with other Hiltons and indeed would be bettered by many three star establishments.

Would I choose to come here - not personally, but if attending a conference not so bad that worth staying elsewhere although Edinburgh has many establishments that are trying much harder.

When booking this hotel and reviewing the TripAdvisor comments about the construction I thought it wouldn't be an issue - surprisingly it was. Trying to get here by rental car is a nightmare and using the train station is a bit of a detour.
Check in was quick almost rushed by the front desk clerk, who kept cutting me off with answers to my questions. When I asked for a late checkout - again i was cut off and was told no even as a HH Gold member. Perhaps a bit more professional hilton training might help the front desk.
We were given a large room overlooking a church. The bed and linens were of Hilton quality and provided a restful sleep. Good Wifi connection.
*NOTE this hotel does not have a Executive Lounge.
Enjoyed the breakfast in the dining room with delightful staff greeting you and assisting with beverages.
Between the construction and front desk service - one does not feel the charm to return until major improvements are completed.

this hotel is converted from a series of connected row houses situated on both sides of the street. we stayed three nights in the annex. one person staffed the desk in the small vestibule area to answer questions and provide information. the hotel lobby was on the other side of the street which consisted of a comfortable seating area, bar, dinning and breakfast area as one might expect for any large chain hotel.

our room at the annex was large, nicely furnished and i believe recently renovated and on the first floor-one level above the ground floor. the couple we were traveling with, a hilton honors member, were on the ground floor which was below street level. the view out of their window was a brick wall pit that extended around the windows to allow outside light to enter through the below ground windows.

the annex was not accessible for physically disabled. it did have an elevator; however, the hall ways consisted of a labyrinth of stairs that went up and then down to numerous landings on different levels that had to be negotiated to get to your room. carrying luggage to your room can be a workout.

a tour group arrived moments prior to our arrival at the annex. there were several travelers with disabilities that were unable to get to their rooms. they were delayed in the small lobby of the annex until other accommodations could be arranged.

if you have the ability to walk two to three miles a day you can get to the shopping areas, numerous restaurants, buses and many points of intrest throughout the city. if walking is not a option have the hotel call a cab. at this time the tram tracks are under construction, when completed will provide access to city center.

Room Tip: do not book on line. call the hotel directly and specifically advise them of your room requirements...

We checked into the Hotel but were asked to stay at the Hilton Town House opposite which is supposed to be a part of the Hotel. The staff and check in was efficient and speedy. The room I found very small for a Hilton. The building being old, the floors creaked and so did the bed. Personally I did not have a very comfotable night. We were on the third floor and I guess it was a floor converted from an erstwhile attic. The location of the hotel is good as it is right next to the Haymarket railway station and not far from the city centre.

Looking for somewhere for a long overdue break in Edinburgh - Scotland's Capital - I settled on the Hilton Grosvenor due to its proximity to Haymarket Rail Station (200m walk) and that it was outside the busy city centre. Although the website warned of the ongoing Tram works in Haymarket, this proved to be a major benefit in terms of noise (there wasn't any as the Grosvenor Street is presently closed to through traffic). The hotel is close to a number of Lothian Bus routes, which we used extensively to tour the city and attractions, but also only 10 mins walk from the western end of Princes Street.

Having booked the optional room upgrade, we were allocated a junior suite in the main hotel. It was massive with a very comfortable king sized bed and sitting area with large sofa but we found the decor rather bland (see photos). The bathroom was small in comparison with the suite spoilt by a poorly positioned toilet with a cheap plastic seat. The room lacked enough power points (especially by the bed (for charging phones) and none by the desk in the sitting area) and storage. There were a couple of housekeeping issues which were immediately and excellently dealt with by the reception and housekeeper when raised.

The breakfast was excellent in the small restaurant which, on the Sunday morning, was full with a large coach party. Being out most evenings and with so many eating options in the city, we didn't have an evening meal in the hotel. Disappointing the Hilton Grosvenor lacks a fitness suite and swimming pool.

Overall, an excellent and comfortable base to explore the city without the noise and higher costs found in the city centre hotels. Excellent attention from all the staff.

Room Tip: Check whether you are in the main hotel or across the room in the Townhouse.
