Its a basic hotel but a very good location. We stayed just one night. It was the location which attracted us. I didn't get a great deal of sleep due to noisy coridoors. However the room itself was plesant. Hot water and clean etc. I would stay again due to the location.

Just come back from a 4 night stay in Edinburgh at hotel Mercure and we were very satisfied. We booked a superior room on the top floor with a gorgeous view and a balcony and it's really worth the price. King bed, lovely furniture, new bathroom, huge room. Cold and hot breakfast very satisfactory and staff very kind and courteous. The location is perfect also. Small tip : you have to swipe your room card in the lift if you want to get somewhere ! When we go back to Edinburgh we will surely reserve again at this hotel.

Stayed in this hotel for one night mid - week. My boyfriend and i stayed in the standard double castle view room - number 268. Room was nice, smallish double bed, tv, small desk with 2 chairs and a bathroom with shower and tub. It had the essentials without any fuss. Good for a hastle free stay though i can't say there was a wow factor, As for the castle view - again no wow, so probably not worth paying extra for . Would recommend as it is in a great location just five minutes walk from Waverley Station, Decent hotel if you want somewhere comfortable to sleep while you explore the area.

The hotel is in a fantastic location & appears fairly modern!

This ends as soon as you head above reception and the bar/restaurant.

The rooms are very basic and could do with a refurbishment! The radiator in my room did not work but thankfully the one in the bathroom did! There is no sound proofing anywhere! I could hear everything going on in the corridors and in the rooms around mine! The rooms looked like they hadn't been decorated since the 80's.

On the positive, the breakfast menu was plentiful and a great choice. The evening meals were great quality and reasonable in price. There was a lovely Spanish waitress who kept us amused most nights! Very friendly and very helpful!

I wouldn't stay here again unless the rooms had been refurbished and modernised!
