I have stayed many times at the Scotsman both for business and pleasure and have not got round to wiritng a review of this wonderful hotel. My last visit was a few weeks back with my husband where we were upgraded to a suite on arrival which was a lovely suprise and a most incredible room (although the standard of all rooms are high, maybe some smaller than others). The service in this hotel is exemplary, better than most hotels I have stayed both in the UK & Europe (and I stay in a lot!!). There is a genuine friendliness from staff and you feel that they want to make your stay as memorable as possible (I have stayed here at least 6 times I must say that on EVERY occasion I have felt this way). The toiletries in the bathroom (Cowshed) are gorgeous (Babington House Spa make these so say no more!). Little boxes of Edinburgh rock left on pillow instead of a cheap chocolate, wonderful selection of tea and coffee and an excpetional mini bar. The best bit for me is the little hatch where they leave any room service so you don't have to answer the door! Oh and the bar and brasserie very hip! If you want a classy, sexy, hip and sassy hotel then look no further than the Scotsman. I'll be back again and again and again .........

overall nice hotel but disappointed with service provided by receptionist ordered a paper for the following morning which never arrived , also on departure found receptionists manner quite patronising. booked a restaurant through conceiege and on arrival for the meal told we were booked in for the previous night which was quite awkward. probably look at staying somewhere else next time

I've stayed at many luxury hotels and several Leading Hotels of the World, and The Scotsman is now my favorite. The location, in the heart of old-town Edinburgh, is phenomenal...everything is right out the door. The hotel has a ton of historical charm.

The room was HUGE, and included a little sitting area by the window. The bed was super-comfy, something I appreciate even more since I found European standards for bed comfort to be pretty lacking. Everything was very clean and up-to-date. I loved it, and while I don't get to Scotland all that often I would definitely stay nowhere but the Scotsman upon my return.

The hotel also doesn't nickle-and-dime you. The mini-bar was very reasonable and room service was also well-priced and VERY good food!

One hint...Expedia ocassionally has decent rates here. Also, try checking the specials on the Leading Hotels of the World (lhw.com) Web site. This hotel can be pricey but there are deals to be found.

We enjoyed our weekend at the Scotsman, had a deluxe room which was comfortable, although abit warm (no ac). We booked our room through the hotel at $330, no breakfast, and paid $40 per day to park which seemed expensive to us. The staff was nice enough. Didn't use the spa but it looked inviting, the bar was busy all weekend. The best thing was location. We will probably try someplace different next time though.

Our one night stay at the Scotsman was excellent. After a short walk from Edinburgh's main bus station we crossed the bridge and the hotel entrance was right in front of us. Gavin, the concierge, gave us a warm welcome and after a very efficient check-in he showed us to our room on the 7th floor.
Our room was the cheapest type available (a study room) but very spacious and it had everything we needed - mini-bar, tea & coffee making facilities, internet access, iron, robes, slippers and, best of all, windows that actually opened. The bed was a normal double size and very comfortable. The view from the two large windows was excellent of the bridge and as far as Princess Street.
The bathroom was quite small but well appointed and the toiletries were the Cowshed brand.
We went swimming in the stainless steel pool and enjoyed the jacuzzi hot tub afterward.
That evening we ate in the hotel's North Street Brasserie, where we enjoyed more excellent service and good food.
Check-out was fast and friendly with Gavin escorting us, via the hotel lift, directly to the Waverley Railway station entrance.
We found everything about the hotel excellent - room, service, restaurant, location and ambiance.
Will definitely go back next time we are in Edinburgh.

Our mini honeymoon took us to Edinburgh. We booked this hotel over the internet and found a surprising difference in the rates you pay (handy tip - book by internet for the best room rates! But don't choose the breakfast, it worked out £25 each on the internet when its only £17 when you get there!). Check in was smooth, the staff helped us with the luggage into the hotel from where you park-up on the bridge, They showed us round the room, ensuring you know where everything is - we had the Deluxe room which looked out across the train station. All room facilities were great and room was perfectly presented. Ensure you get down to the amazing equipped Gym or Swimming pool, the hotel has everything you need to relax. In all, we were extremely happy with our stay, just what we needed. We will be back....

The Scotsman is located about mid-way on the Royal mile, right on North Bridge above Waverly Station. Tough to beat this location. We were not at all happy with our room as it did not meet our expectations. They were amazingly nice rooms, just didn't match the advertisement, and therefore didn't meet expectations or seem to be worth the cost. We booked two directors rooms. As advertised on the Scotsman website, all of these rooms have a nice view. One of the two rooms we received was identical to the website photo (traditional wood panelling with great view of Scott Monument and Balmoral Hotel). The second room was "equivalent" in size and quality, but was very modern and cold, had no wood panelling, etc, and had a "great view" of the underside of North Bridge and the roof of Waverly Train Station. Confirm that your room is at least on the 4th floor or above. I went to the front desk to ask to be relocated, and was treated as though I was being unappreciative or ungrateful (I was given a song and dance about how this is a boutique hotel, and all the rooms have their own unique character). At these prices, I don't expect to be made to feel badly about asking for ANYTHING, and the unique character of the underside of a bridge didn't seem so boutique.
