“A Great weekend”
Reviewed September 22, 2007

Just come back from a long weekend in Edinburgh. I went with my wife and was wanting to stay somewhere nice but not madly over priced. Most major Hotels were full due to the Rugby so after consulting Tripadvisor and reading the reviews managed to get a room at the Abcorn.

I've never been to Edinburgh before so got a taxi from the station but there are loads of buses that drop off right in front of the Hotel. Its about a mile out of the city centre but £2.50 gets you a bus pass for the day that gets you all around the city must say best public transport system I've used.

The Abcorn is a very friendly place to stay, the breakfast was fine and the cleanliness bang on - would stay their again. Only thing you could pull them up on is that it is a bit dated decor wise but not grubby just a bit old fashioned.

Can't say much that hasn't already been said! Stayed at the Abcorn Guest House with two friends for a week during Hogmaney. The Abcorn's are super super nice--they assited one of our group when she became seriously ill, offered great advice when we asked as well as extra tickets to the street party in case we hadn't gotten them already, etc.

If the weather's decent, you can easily walk into town, if not, there's a direct bus that stops right in front of the door.

We were there for 4 nights and had a wonderful stay. Our double room was very spacious. Our daughter's single room was cozy (a little small) but very functional. Breakfast was plentiful. Great location. Kind of a long walk into town but there's a bus stop right outside the door. We bought the all day passes for easy on/off. I'd absolutely stay there again and will recommended it to friends.

The Filling Station on the Royal Mile is a great place for dinner, drinks or dessert and Gordon's Tratoria serves excellent pasta.

We spent 4 nights here and I wish we had booked a few days more. Edinburgh is a fantastic city to visit and the Abcorn is a great place to make your home base while there. Its an enegetic walk to the Royal Mile or a short bus ride. Buses stop pretty much right in front of the guest house and run frequently. The rooms are very nice and the beds quite comfortable. Breakfast is good. The hosts are very helpful and friendly. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights during the festival in August (lucky to have found a room!). We had the family room which sleeps five. I agree with previous commenters that the Guest House is very comfortable with a superb breakfast and excellent service (and very reasonable prices). I would add that its location is terrific, a pleasant 20-minute walk or 5-minute bus ride from the Royal Mile. We would definitely stay there again!

The Abcorn is a wonderful B&B just over a mile from the High Street (Royal Mile). The owners are extremely nice and very helpful with recommendations. The place is spotlessly clean, the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, and the breakfasts are very good. All rooms have small ensuite baths with showers--and by far the best water pressure we've ever had in the UK! Rooms 3 and 6 on the first floor (UK, 2nd floor US) have a nice view of the garden. There is a bus stop to the city centre just outside the door (only a 5-10 minute ride to the Royal Mile). Several decent restaurants are within walking distance (along Causewayside--just one block over from Mayfield Gardens). If you're looking for something you can walk to, we recommend Good Year (Chinese) or the Bierex (sandwiches, pub fare in a nicer setting and serving food all day).

We stayed for two nights in early august so that we could attend the tattoo and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

The staff were excellent and Marjorie is an absolute darling.

The room was of a good size, airy and bright and we didnt get in the way of ourselves (2 adults and a child).

We would definately stay again.
