Everything about the Allison House appealed to me.The bedroom was nicely decorated and of a good size. All the staff (we met four of them) were extremely helpful and informative with regards the city that they are clearly proud of. This is a quality small hotel/B&B which serves legendary breakfasts.
Can't wait to go again

We stayed a week here and were very happy with both the cleanliness of the room, the quality of service and the friendly staff. What amazed us were the big cooked breakfasts with sides of fresh berries and fruit, the complimentary whisky and sherry on arrival and the proximity to the centre for the price we paid.

It's only about a 20min walk to the royal mile which is perfect distance after a huge breakfast. Or there are buses direct to the city every 2 minutes.

We had the small double room which is very adequate with a desk and two chairs but the larger rooms (we peeked at an empty one) had bigger chairs and a couch.

All in all. We definitely recommend Allison House Hotel.

My partner and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Allison Hotel. The owners were away but we were looked after by Christine who did a fantastic job. The hotel is clean and the room was lovely. It was quiet yet not far from the city centre. Although it was cold outside, the hotel was lovely and warm. The breakfasts are superb, with lots of fresh fruit as well as a good sized cooked breakfast. The extra touch of the whiskey and sherry in the room was lovely. Christine could not have been more helpful. She gave us a list of the buses that came past the hotel, and the ones that we could catch to go to certain attractions, which we found really useful. The hotel is situated on a extremely good bus route. It costs £1.50 per trip, or you can get a day ticket for £3.50. Most of the time we walked into town, which took about 20 minutes. This was our first trip to Edinburgh, and will definitely not be our last. There is so much to do. We will definitely be staying at the Allison Hotel again. The little extra touches went a long way to make our stay so much more enjoyable.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2, which was a lovely size. The bathroom was a little on the small side, but it was perfectly adequate, and did not cause a problem.

Spent two nights at the Alison on a theatre break organised by the owner. On arrival very quick check in and shown to our room which was a good size clean just needs a little up dating. shower room good with a huge shower cubicle and good power from the shower. A twenty minute walk into the city brought you straight into the Royal Mile. Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice from cold buffet then cooked breakfast available which was very nicely cooked and presented. Staff friendly and very helpful.

We stayed in Allison House for a couple of nights in September. We booked online with easy and found the hotel no problem using satnav. The off street parking isn't huge but got parked for our 2 night stay. They hotel is on a main bus route on a main road. The buses run very regularly and its £1.50 to travel anywhere in the city but you must have the correct change.
We were greeted by the owner and taken to our room. The room was very spacious with a huge double bed (as it was two singles fastened together). Very comfortable. Room was clean. A bit tired in places but we loved it. The ensuite was tiny but what can you expect from an old house.
They're was tea and coffee facilities in the room plus complimentary whisky and sherry. My other half enjoyed the whisky !
It was about a fifteen minute walk into the city itself. We tended to walk in and taxi back.
The breakfasts were gorgeous. Ceral, fruit, toast plus a full scottish breakfast. Nothing was a trouble for the staff.
Well worth the money and would recommend to all.
We will be going back.
Thanks Allison House for a lovely stay on my first visit to Edinburgh.
