“Fantastic Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

We met up with some friends in Edinburgh and we stayed at the Sherwood. Susan and Davey were great. So helpful and understanding. The rooms are small but have every facility you could ever want. The showers are amazing and the breakfast was spectacular. The guest house is just a mile from the city center and while it was cold and windy outside, inside was always lovely and warm. I promised the guys i would do this when i got back home but forgot. it was only when we were all talking of going back to Edinburgh that i remembered my promise to do a review. We'll be staying at the Sherwood when we come back in December 2013

Room Tip: Room 2 is not en-suite but has a private bathroom about 6 feet from the bedroom door

We would recommend the Sherwood guest house following a long weekend break. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed the freshly prepared breakfast with lots of options - David and Susan had even gone to the extra trouble of getting gluten free bread for us. The room we had (number 2) was small but well decorated and the bed was comfy. The locked private bathroom was across the hallway with fluffy bathrobes provided although we never met any guests in the hallway. We would stay here again.

My friend and I stayed in the Sherwood by accident. We had booked a room for two nights at the B&B next door but due to a glitch, there was no vacancy on the second night. Susan and David were gracious enough to take us in and I'm so glad they did. This was one of my favourite stays in Scotland. I felt right at home. We stayed in the family room and it was excellent. I'm planning to return to Scotland with my family, and I think we'll be spending a couple of nights here if there's vacancy.

We spent 3 days here in the Family room. The room was lovely, fridge ,microwave, small table for laptop or food. the beds were comfy and the ensuite shower room was clean, well stocked and with a good shower. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious, not your usual fry up but instead freshly prepared fruit, cereals,a selection of cheeses and hams, yoghurts, croissants fresh bread rolls. Our hostess was friendly and attentive without ever being intrusive. Friendly atmosphere, clean, well stocked with linen, towels toiletries etc, this is somewhere we shall return to and recommend it to anyone wanting accomodation within easy access of University or town centre

A very nice place in a quiet neighborhood, but within walking distance to the city. The rates are fair and the rooms are clean and very nicely furnished. The hosts are very talented in making their guests feel welcome and it shows in a lot of pleasurable things. We enjoyed staying there a lot, thank you very much, Susan and David!

We spent one night at Sherwood on our way out of Scotland, and it made for a great place to stay while exploring Edinburgh. It was nice to have a place that was reasonably priced with parking spaces, but still within walking distance of the sights/restaurants! We were in a double ensuite room that was, as mentioned by others, tiny - but we knew when we booked that it would likely be a smaller space. The owners have done a great job of providing everything you could need in the space that is available! We might book a slightly larger room if we were to return for a longer period of time, but that's just personal preference (plus, hubby is quite tall!). All in all, a great value for Edinburgh.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights on a trip to Edinburgh and we had a wonderful time. The guest house is lovely and well maintained. We booked a room with one double bed and we had a private bath. The bath on this room is not en suite, but was only 3 steps across a hallway and has a separate key, which didn't bother us at all. The bathroom was modern and clean, even though it was quite small. Our bed was comfortable and the room even had a teapot, assorted teas and coffees, and a microwave! And you can't beat the free wi-fi, which worked great in our room on our Kindle Fire. The host, Susan, was so nice and chatted with us at breakfast many times. The breakfast is good, with your standard continental spread and the hosts will toast your pastries if you like and bring you a steaming hot pot of coffee or tea. It's about a mile or so walk to the Royal Mile from here, but we did it every day, including with luggage and didn't have any problems at all. If you don't like walking, you can always take the bus, which stops literally steps away from the front door.
