“Fabulous Food Deal”
Reviewed October 28, 2006

The two eat for £20 dinner deal at the Apex City, Agua restuarant is fantastic value for money.

The menu generally comprises of a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 sweets and is superbly presented.

We have eaten there on quite a few occassions now and would recommend it to all.....great experience and reasonably priced wines to wash it all down.

Compliments to the chef!!!!

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Apex City Hotel in Edinburgh in October 2006. The first surprise was that the Pool and Sauna facility was located in their other property about 100 yards away.
The room material indicated that the Pool and Sauna amenities were subject to availability and required a reservation!

Next, the room had no mini-refrigerator, and no safe; first 4 Star hotel I've ever stayed in that didn't have this basic feature. Also, the room had a view of the Dumpster! First hotel with views of the Dumpster area, also.

The initial stocking of the room was not complete either; we found out on the second night that bottled water was complimentary. We received one small bar of soap for the room the entire time we were there.

The room was very noisy... I could hear the phone ringing in the adjacent room! And lastly, the mattress was absolutely terrible. I could feel the mattress springs through the cover and any movement caused noises, which sounded like crunching hay... I think a hay mattress would have been more comfortable.

The staff were courteous and helpful with questions about the locations of sites etc. but the room situation appeared to be out of their control. Basically, my understanding, from the Staff is that if you want 4 Star features in your room you need to upgrade to what they call their Executive rooms.

I was surprised that Expedia rated this property 4 Stars; 3 Stars maximum, and I would not be interested in staying in any of their properties in the future.

I checked your reviews of this hotel before my friend and I stayed and they were remarkably correct. The hotel is clean, efficient, and the staff were very helpful and courteous. The breakfast was worth every penny, absolutely delicious and what a choice!
The location was good for most of Edinburgh and its sights, if a little hilly.(But Edinburgh is on a hill!) Two restaurants to try near by are The Outsider and Herbert Fish - excellent.

I would recommend the Apex City Hotel in Edingurgh anyday. the hotel had lovely decor and was spotlessly clean. I didnt use the restaurant as there were bars and restaurants on the doorstep but the food looked lovely. The staff were all pleasant and I cannot find fault with any of it

We stayed in this hotel following problems at check in at its sister hotel next door. Stay was average, but would look for a different hotel next time. Location is good, within walking distance from central Edinburgh. Had problems at check out. And a cooked breakfast with no egg? Ever heard the like?!

  • Liked — The guy who called our taxi - he had a great sense of humour!
  • Disliked — hmmm, the kettle in the wardrobe?!

I have stayed at the Apex City, several times and as a seasoned traveller, I have to say that it is a breath of fresh air NOT to be treated as number or booking reference.

The staff are consistently good natured and attentive to both detail and the guests. Nothing really seems to be a problem to them.

I have enjoyed all my stays at the Apex City and when I have been booked into it by my company, I am delighted.

The general ambience is a pleasant one and the facilites are comfortable and immaculate.

I am always greeted with a smile by the reception staff and Marie in particular is quick to welcome me back as is Sarah who always seems to be running the show at breakfast time in the restaurant, where an excellent breakfast is serverd.

Although, I don't pay for my stays at the hotel, I believe it to be excellent value for money.

This was a very nice hotel, with imaginative modern design. The room was clean and well-maintained. The only problem was that the architect had not really caught on to how much sound insulation was needed at the front. Even on a midweek night, The Grassmarket is party central in Edinburgh and if you don't want to be roused at three am by revellers, make sure you get a room at the back!
