“great hotel, lovely staff, lack of nights sleep.”
Reviewed March 6, 2011

we had one nights stay, our room was 205 facing back gardens which didnt bother us as it was so quiet during the day, the staff were very helpful, breakfast was nice except I asked for two poached eggs and they were almost raw inside, they were replaced at once by one of the staff. The location was fine for us as we love walking. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were first class. The only downside was the noise from some of the residents in the room next door coming in late, then when they put on the bathroom light the extractor fan goes on too, the noise from the next door fan was so loud it seemed to be in our room, this happened again in the middle of the night and seemed to last for ages.
We would stay in the hotel again but ask for a diffent room.

Thank you for your review of our hotel following your recent visit. We really appreciate you taking the time to do this as customer comments are important to me and all my team. I'm delighted that you enjoyed our hotel and were comfortable but I can fully understand your frustration at the noise interuption from the guests in the room next to yours during your stay. We are acting on your comments to solve this issue. Thank you again and we hope to welcome you back sometime again.

I stayed at The Bruntsfield yesterday, just for one night. My room was not small at all, especially the bed was HUGE, certainly enough to fit three people -- but if you're tall your feet will probably not fit, as it was rather short. The flat screen TV was fine too. My room had a nice view to the park across the street, with people jogging and biking and (although you can't really call it a view, of course) it was a very nice and relaxing image just a few minutes walk outside the lively center of a wonderful city.

Bus connections are convenient and frequent, there are three buses that will get you to the main shopping street of the city (11, 15 and 16) so one of them is always around the corner. Getting to the hotel from the airport is easy too, just take the Airlink bus and then one of these buses (check for the correct stop). You can also walk to the city center and the Castle, the Royal Mile, the Museum of Scotland etc are all within reach on foot -- although if you can afford it you'd be better off staying at a more central hotel if walking around is what you're going for.

Breakfast was good, not as much variety as I would have liked on the buffet, but there were nice additions on the menu, made on order, such as scrambled eggs, eggs & bacon or sausages etc.

As for the downside, I would have wanted a safe in the room and most certainly a fridge. Come on, this is 2011. Also the bathtub looked very dated and gave the impression of not being clean enough (although i'm sure it was just its age that gave the impression). Also, at least in my room, the decoration and furniture did look dated too. Worst part was that in my room WiFi was really slow and my laptop would lose connection all the time. If I were there for more nights I would have requested another room just for this, so a new access point would be a good idea.

On the whole, not a bad hotel and very good value, I would definitely consider going back, but there are some things that should be addressed (safe and fridge to begin with).

Thank you very much for your review following your recent stay at our hotel. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us although we have certainly taken note of the points you raise where we could make our hotel even more comfortable. We agree with your comment about room safes and they are due to be installed in every bedroom before Summer 2011. Your comment about the WiFi signal is under investigation as we pride ourselves in the stability of our free our WiFi system. Thank you again, we really appriciate it when customers give us feedback.

We have just returned from a long weekend break at the Bruntsfield Hotel visiting our daughter. This is our second stay at the hotel and it was every bit as good as the first one. From the efficient check in to the equally efficient checking out the staff are are friendly, helpful and willing at all times. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are a good size and well decorated. They are always clean and well prepared for your stay. Breakfast gives a good start to the day with a good range of things to choose from. It is served speedily and piping hot. The hotel is well situated for easy access to the city centre. All in all I hope my daughter continues to live in Edinburgh so we can revisit this hotel again.

Great wee hotel very convenient for city centre but not as pricey as those bang in the centre. Only a 10 minute walk to princess street, but 5 or 6 regular buses go right past hotel. Near classy Bruntsfield and morningside areas

We visit Edinburgh several times a year and have stayed in numerous hotels and guest houses, we booked this hotel last minute and have just booked again for our next visit in June. We like the location as its quiet and a pleasant walk into the city centre approx 20 mins away or five mins by bus or taxi. The staff were helpful and friendly, we had a minor request within the room, which was dealt with to our full satisfaction. Our room was comfortable spacious and clean. The bathroom had seperate bath and shower facilities, this is a bonus not always found in all hotels. The bar and restaurant was downstairs and had a nice atmosphere, we did not eat there but breakfast was faultless. Looking forward to our next visit hope this review helps. Lovely hotel, great location, we stayed in a 4 poster room (room 103) the bed was huge, and it was a nice size room, the bathroom was a little chilly, could do with a safe and a fridge would be nice. The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful.
We went for my 40th birthday, we had a lovely time and can't wait to return.

Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. Initially, we queried our room as meant to be a double but was a twin beds put together. The staff couldn't be more helpful to rectify this.
Lovely room with a view of the Edinburgh Castle as well as just across the road from the Edinburgh Links area.
Beautiful would recommend.
