Just wanted to write in and tell all about the fabulous trip my wife and I had to the Channings Hotel. Having read previous reviews there is nothing more I can say to further praise this excellent hotel. I would like to say I fully agree with all the positive remarks there have been. If you search back a LONG way you may find some less than satisfied customers but I can honestly say I doubt they even stayed here at all! I refuse to believe the hotel was dirty or staff were rude. Fabulous.

This hotel is a gem off the beaten track. Although we were initially diappointed with the check-in, when we got a double rather than a twin bed, we were extremely pleased with the decor, the standard room size and the comfy beds. The room service was efficient, the TV channels plentiful and the breakfasts were good and plentiful.

Great staff, freindly but not intrusive. Ginger haired man on reception was very good. Breakfast was very nice with tasty kippers and smoked haddock. You needed step ladders to climb onto the fantastically comfortable bed. Very quiet location, but only 5 minutes walk from Princes Street.

We just returned from a one-night stay at the Channings. We only had 24-hours in Edinburgh after a four night stay in Dublin, so we wanted to make the most of it. Let's just say that the reviews on this hotel are right on the money. Clean, econmical and with top notch service.

The hotel is really five townhomes chained together in a nice, quiet residential neighborhood a solid 10 minute walk from the City center and its attactions. If you do not like walking a bit or taking a cab to and from the hotel, this may not be the place for you.

But for us, it was a 15 minute bus ride from the airport and a leisurely walk through Edinburgh to get here. The walk itself is beautiful and gives you a unique perspective on Scottish life. Due to an early morning departure, we elected for a cab back to the airport, which ran 15 pounds sterling.

The room was average to large sized and very clean. The attached bath was a bit on the small side but was also clean and serviceable. We were given a 4th floor room with an impressive view of the neighborhood below.

Using an American travel website we were able to reserve the Hotel for under $150. There was no problem with booking or check in or check out. The staff had a cab waiting for us and the whole stay could not have been smoother.

Lastly, Edinburgh itself is simply incredible. One day's time was nowhere near enough to see it all. We have made a pact to return and will again stay at the Channings.

Having read the reviews that are already here, what can I say that you don't already know? I cannot praise this hotel enough. We checked in on a chilly January day after a horrific journey, but as soon as the young lad opened the door and welcomed us in, my wife and I felt immediately relaxed. The chap at the reception was friendly and efficient covering all the usual things and a whole lot more. He suggested a few restaurants and even offered to book them - thats service! He handed us over to the porter, a young local, who was nothing short of delightful. He informed us of things to see and do in the city and was there throughout our stay along with another porter who was equally charming. My wife actually commented how she felt treated like a lady by the pair!

Room was great, spacious and nicely decorated. Bathroom was pehaps a little smaller than it could have been but for all we were in it, it wasn't a bother. The room was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Both the bathroom and bedroom were both cleaned to the highest standard. It was my wife's birthday the weekend we were away and the Front of House manager left a card in the room on behalf of all the staff wishing her a happy birthday. You just don't see that in most hotels!

We dined out both nights of our stay but next time I'm sure we will dine in one night as the menu made tasty reading!

All in all, we loved it! Many thanks.

We booked a last minute bargain £139 for a superior room with dinner and breakfast included. When we arrived we were upgraded to a suite which had been recently refurbished. The bathroom had originally been a bedroom so it was very spacious and also had a roll top bath. The dinner was delicious, modern British in a simple contempory dining room. The staff were friendly and very helpful. A 15 minute walk to Princess Street, a very quiet and convenient location. I would definitely recommend Channings and will definitely stay there again!
