“Beautiful grounds to explore especially around dusk because of lighting”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

The grounds and buildings on this property are really special. So much history and different gothic designs. I spent several hours walking around. The story of the keeper and the dog is worth it alone. There is also some great pubs right near by after your visit.

“Interesting church yard”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

We went on a day when the church building wasn't open, but there was plenty to look at in the cemetery anyway. The grounds are well kept. THere is a Harry Potter Trail tour that meets just outside of the churchyard every day. We spoke with one of the tour guides and learned that several of the graves have names used in the Harry Potter stories, so this must have been an inspiration to JK Rowlings. You can learn a lot just by reading the dates on the gravestones and looking at the artwork. Interesting place.

“Wonderful Cemetary and Church”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

Came across Bobby's statue and it drew me into the yard. Wandered a while before talking to volunteers and learning about Gaelic concert as part of Trad Fest. Came back and was thrilled. What a venue. Good going guys.

“Not your usual stop on a tour”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

This graveyard was one of the stops on our walking tour of the city and while a graveyard wouldn't be a usual stop, this one is filled with history.

“If you have the stomach for a good ghost story!?”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

The Greyfriars Cemetary aka Greyfriars Kirkyard, is supposedly a very scary haunted place. This may be true - the naughty McKenzie Poltergeist has a story all of his own. I will not spoil the fun, but the tombs are quite amazing, the stories from just reading them are intriguing - and this is linked with Greyfriar's Bobby. I recommended the tour to some family, as I could not do more than walk around - and they went for it 6 months after I visited. The bravado of 2 mid teen boys apparently disintegrated, much to the amusement of their female siblings. All had fun - so either walk around or book in a tour and have a little history and a little giggle ( if you were not the unfortunate member of the party to meet McKenzie!)
