“Great views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

It's well worth climbing Calton Hill to see the views. The Nelson Monument is also good, with a museum at the bottom and great panoramic views from the top. Be careful though, because the man on the door short-changed me initially. It could have been an accident but I'm always wary and wouldn't like any overseas visitors to be caught out.

“A wee hike”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

As we were accommodated almost at the foot of Calton Hill it was a relatively short hike for us, we were not however prepared for a relatively small charge of £4, be prepared......
If you are able to time your visit for 1pm 1300 then you will see the ball rising until at exactly 1300 the ball drops and the one o'clock immediately fires from the castle ramparts

“Amazing views, beautiful landmarks.”

This is well worth the climb to see the amazing views which stretch for miles over the city. Brilliant for taking pictures. There are also several landmarks to take in.

“Vantage point”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

Well worth a short climb to get a spendid view around Edinburgh, without having to make the longer and more demanding ascent of Athur's Seat. 10 minutes walk from the East end of Princes Street, and a convenient place to visit on route to Holyrood and the Scottish Parliament. On my visit, there was a van serving coffee and light snacks. Good also for dogs.

“Excellent Views of the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

From the top of hill you can see the whole of Edinburgh, from the sea to Arthur's Seat, with the castle in-between. A great place for photo opportunities.

To get to it turn right on Princes Street out of Waverly Station and keep walking towards the obelisk which is in the graveyard across the road. Be warned it is quite steep to get up to the hill.
