“Great”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

What a great place to take in the views across Edinburgh. You can see for miles around. Better still climb the 170steps of Nelson monument and you get the most fantastic views (£4 charge). Well worth a visit.

“A free, excellent way to spend a morning”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

We walked up Carlton hill and thought it was lovely. There are a number of paths to the top, some steps, some gentler slopes. There is plenty to see (monuments etc) and the views all around are fantastic. You can see over the city to the castle, over the Firth of Forth, and down onto Holyrood Palace.

“Super Views!”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

The views of Edinburgh City Centre are well worth the climb, especially if you climb up the Nelson Monument as well. The Firth of Forth can also be seen and it is near the East end of the Royal Mile, not far from Parliament and Holyrood Palace. It is especially spectacular if Arthur's Seat and other hills are covered in snow, which was the case at the time of my visit over the Easter weekend.

“Great views over the New Town and down to the Port of Leith”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Included in the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site this hill in the East end of the city centre provides lovely views and also the original Edinburgh Shame or Scotland's Disgrace which gives Edinburgh the nicname of Athens of the North along with Nelsons Monument and the City Observatory amongst many others. So plenty to see even on a grey day.
This is also the home of the April Beltane Fire Festival

“Best free view of city.....”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Just a short up hill walk from Princess Street is the most awesome view of the city from Calton Hill.
Also home to historic monuments ...National Monument erected in honour of Scottish soldiers in Napoleonic Wars; Nelson Monument; Dugald Stewart Monument, Observatory and parkland.
A hill with a fantastic view .....loads of photo opportunities.
