“Great location comfortable and clean”

Was on a real short stay so this was just perfect. Right in the trendy 'Shore' area of Edinburgh, all the best bars and restaurants, found some real gems, not far to the center of Edinburgh (Edinburgh is a very small city, literally a burgh so nowhere is too far, even on a short stay.

Staff where good, just worked around politely, a very attractive building apart from the modern extension at the rear. Had a great stay, next time I'll be back for longer.

Recommend the hotel and the area.

Booked a standard room for one night following a holiday in Portugal. We arrived tired and stressed following a 3 hour delay and running very late for our dinner booking at nearby Tom Kitchin. Check in staff very pleasant and helpful and checked us in quickly. We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite which was extremely comfortable. Well done Malmaison !!

Room Tip: Its worth asking for a view over Water of Leith

A great weekend deal and a very comfortable hotel.
They were very obliging with a portable air-conditioner, and the free milk for coffee/tea is a nice touch. Set in a lovely developed area within Leith, it well placed for some serious eating out.
Eating in and like curry? Insist that the creamy Goan curry is more substantial and delivers some actual curry flavour.

This is the third time I have stayed with my wife at the Malmaison Edinburgh and this is the third time we have both come away well rested, well fed and well looked after. The rooms are luxurious, the food (breakfast and dinner) is sumptuous and even though it can be pricey we now wouldn't stay at another hotel in Edinburgh.

For all the fire alarm haters: yes it went off and it was nothing major but wouldn't you rather a working fire system that's a little sensitive rather than one that doesn't work at all!?

Thanks to all the staff for another wonderful stay :)

Having arrived in Leith for our start of tour of Highlands we found the Malmaison to be a lovely hotel with a fabulous room overlooking the waterfront. Bed was huge and amazingly soft and so too were the pillows.

Spotlessly clean with every additional item you could think of including free water both sparkling and still and all the toiletries you could want. Very quiet and the staff were extremely pleasant including the bar staff.

Great choice of drinks and cocktails should you need it. Didn't eat in the restaurant however the continental breakfast was great in a nice setting.

The only thing that was a little troublesome was finding it as it is through some gates at the end of the road which is pedestrianised which is a bonus not being on a main road. Parking is on the road, however in a cul-de-sac and we were able to keep an eye on it.

Really enjoyed the stay and has no problems in Leith, didn't feel threatened or unable to walk out at night. Booked and got the room for an exceptionally cheap rate, a real bargain.

Thanks for a lovely stay.

The hotel is very stylish with fabulous dinning rooms, amazing food and in the mid price range. Through the night room service with menus in the rooms, There is a mini bar that is cheaper than some. luxurious beds and a bath that i could sink into, a novelty for me at 5ft 7ins. We had lovely views over the court yard and out over the leith dock yards.
We opted for the continental breakfast in our room both mornings. The receptionist booked our at 1am in the morning when we checked in properly after our wedding reception just a long the road from the hotel. The breakfast had Danish pastries, croissants, butter jams and honey to choose from, granola crunch in yoghurt with blueberries and strawberries , cereal and milk as well as a bowl of fresh fruit salad.
I was very impressed and we will use again on our wedding anniversaries that my husband is ashore for.

My fiance decided to treat me to an overnight stay at the Malmaison Hotel in Leith, just outside Edinburgh City Centre. The stay was for bed and breakfast, Saturday to Sunday.

The hotel is located down at the waterfront and it is lovely from the outside. The courtyard in which it sits is very inviting during nice weather. The interior of the hotel is also lovely with a fairly modern twist on what appears to be a relatively old building.

Check-in was friendly and quick and we were allocated room 119. The room itself was spacious with high ceilings and nice big windows. The view was lovely looking out over the courtyard. There was an extensive mini bar available along with wine and snacks. These were quite expensive, but it's the same with any hotel mini bar prices!

The bed was smaller and less comfortable than I had hoped and the mattress appeared to be fairly thin. However, I managed to sleep just fine. In terms of noise, there was none which was absolute bliss considering that we live on a main road; the peace was wonderful!

The bathroom was nice with a massive rainfall shower. I loved it! The toiletries were also lovely; the shower gel smelled gorgeous! There were plenty of towels and two nice bathrobes to use should you want them.

Television was good with all the freeview channels available. There was also a DVD player which may be handy if you were staying for an extended period on business etc.

The continental buffet breakfast was very nice. You had your choice of juices, yoghurt, cereals, conserves, fruit, pastries and banana loaf which was lovely! For a small £2 supplement, you could also enjoy a hot breakfast. We chose the waffles with crispy bacon. Whilst it was very nice, the waffles were a bit soggy and incredibly eggy. Still ate it though and were thoroughly satisfied after.

The staff we came across were very nice, although the barman was a little snooty. All in all it was a pleasant trip, however the £200.00 price tag that came with it was a little on the steep side considering the above.

Room Tip: Facing the front of the hotel!

It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
