Stayed here on 29th Sept. for a theatre break.Hotel was ok but i think it needs a little attention.ie the decor is VERY dark which hides a lot of things. The room was good but there was not a lot of space for putting clothes stc. if you are staying longer than we did.The remote for the television had a bit missing, the shoe shine pad had been used and put back in the little holder (no big deal) but as i say it needs a litte bit of attention.Bar prices are over the top and i was the only person that i saw buying a drink, only one drink though because of the prices. Why cant these places put the prices at a reasonable figure and more people would stay for a drink.

We stayed here on the Friday night £99 deal, and had a lovely stay. Our room didn't have a view, but I wouldn't expect that for what we were paying. It was large, warm and comfortable with all the lovely Mal extras. Although we were more than happy with our room, the lift looked a bit scuffed and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the rooms might be a bit tired, but we were delighted with what we had for what we paid. The meal was excellent and the hotel location really makes gives the feel of a wee "get away". There are plenty of great bars and restaurants nearby and the city is barely 15min away, but the spot by the shore in Leith is relatively quiet and relaxing. We will definitely keep an eye open for deals to return, it's a real wee gem.

A boutique style hotel with great decor, with wonderful touches that is showing it age in places. The service however is variable, when we arrived after a long journey we were not able to check in as our rooms were not ready. It took so long that we agreed to take a room without a view. The rooms are large and well decorated. The biscuits, tea, coffee etc are of the highest quality, so enjoy. We had ordered an extra bed, it was uncomfortable and collapsed, and there was no replacement until next day.
Breakfast on the first morning was superb, the next day it was barely average, with undercooked sausages, burnt toast and poor service. It is located in Leith just outside central Edinburgh, but there are good buses to the centre, and cheaper than parking in the city. There are some excellent restaurants near. I would go back, but only if it was a good offer, as there is much to like.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the bay.

Great place to stay,Our suite on the 1st floor looked out over the water and was huge, staff were lovely,we had the choice of three different suites, but chose room 122 in the old part of the building which was lovely, gorgeous four poster bed, huge bathroom, corner lounge suite, beautifully decorated in traditional scottish notes.Breakfast is very good quality, plenty of fresh choice from the cold buffet followed by something hot from the menu,i had the eggs benedict and they were delicious.Stayed here before, but not in a suite, definitely worth the extra money.Staff are great,Cannot wait to stay again.Ate out at Martin Wishart, which has to be one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. All in all a great nite.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms in the old part of the hotel are lovely and bright and look over the water, the to...

Gorgeous Hotel situated in Leith, just outside Edinburgh. Not the easiest Hotel to find using a Sat Nav. Hotel decor is gorgeous and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Our Superior room was amazing, big room, Queen sized bed, and great shower and bath in the bathroom. Staff in the restaurant were great, even though we did get forgotten about at breakfast but it was very busy. One thing I did miss was a swimming pool and sauna in the hotel. All in all we had a great stay at the hotel!

Room Tip: I would go for a superior room rather than a double, bit more money but definitely worth it.

Service - Fantastic, from the welcome at check in to the delightful breakfast service. Nice touch to receive a card through the door as it was our wedding anniversary.
Food - Spot on. Try the duck wrap for lunch and the smoked salmon with Scrambled Eggs for breakfast!
Room - Clean, tidy and of decent size. TV channel selection could be better and shower very weak. Bed also very hard but thats a personal preference.
Public Areas - Dark. But this is the Mal. It's their style, don't book if you are going to moan about it like some other reviewers!
Location. Ok. A fair distance from the town centre but serviced well by the 22 bus 24 hours a day. 5 min walk from Royal Yacht Britannia.

Enjoyed it, thanks for a nice stay.

We had booked at Tom Kitchin (nearby) and had decided to stay over in Leith at the Malmaison.
Location was good, some rooms had great views, our view was OK, better than some others. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Hotel was clean, plush, boutique style and had a comfortable lounge bar. We had breakfast in the morning which was good, but service was too quick . No complaints about the hotel at all, a little expensive possibly but par for the course for a 4 star in Edinburgh/Leith.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view!

It's the mother of all Malmaison's. The former house of ill-repute now has a reputation that's second to none, and it's also just a short taxi ride away from Waverley Station. Malmaison Edinburgh bides at Leith (as they say up here), just a stone's throw from the Royal Yacht Britannia, but offering far more funky luxury. Yes, when you want exciting hotels in Edinburgh, this is the King, not the castle. Our Edinburgh hotel puts you close to all of Edinburgh's cobbled splendours, incredible shopping and famous galleries. Then it's back to Mal for Scots dining with a twist, a fine selection of single malts and mojitos in the bar and then back to the slinkiest and most spectacular rooms in the Scots capital. ... more   less
