I have stayed here in the owners suit that actually has an own staircase to help you go into the suit without getting a big entrance through the whole hotel. Absolute stunning suit, decor takes you back for many years and makes you feel like a real lady! However the doors are pretty low my partner almost hit his head :) Unique bathroom with beautiful old bath.
Despite the old style it's nice and clean with modern tv, some fruits and cookies in the room. If you're lucky you can see the highland cow in the garden. We had a lovely dinner at Rhubarb and few drink in the bar. Absolute unique experience. Everyone should get treat to stay in this hotel special in the owner suit. I hope I will get back again.

We attended the Scottish Show held in the hotel. The staff were great and polite. The food was fabulous. My only grump was the white wine was not chilled !
The show itself was very entertaining well done Kerry who choreographed it ! Great singers and music, also well done to the host !
Our party certainly enjoyed our night - thank you to all.

We were thoroughly spoilt from arrival to departure at this wonderful hotel. The staff were friendly helpful and couldent do enough for you.
The rooms were opulant and furnished to a high standard bed was super comfortable.
Afternoon tea was a delight fresh quality cakes and pastrys tea and coffee in silver pots , just lovely!
Breakfast was a feast! Everything was to a high standard and cooked beautifuly.
The grounds were stunning with Peacocks that come to the door when you open the tub with their feed.
Our stay in the Prestonfield made my daughters graduation from Edinburgh all the more special! We will remember our stay with fond memories.
And I would highly reccomend a stay at this gem of a hotel!

Stayed here as the last night of our trip to Scotland - a last treat before heading back to porridge. I had been here for an amazing Burns Supper in January - and was rather impressed that the lady who checked us in remembered me, and made sure we had a lovely room, as repeat visitors. And what a room, four poster bed, clawfoot bath, every possible luxury (apart from the previously mentioned dodgy wifi - but frankly, who can be bothered checking their email in such an otherworldy place). We were meant to go out and explore edinburgh, but the heat of the day and charm of prestonfield made it too hard to leave, so instead it was drinks in the garden, a stroll around the grounds, some more drinks on the terrace, followed by a sumptuous meal in Rhubarb, where the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable service was second only to the exquisite cuisine. We stumbled to bed very happy and replete indeed, though i will say facing the world the next day has never been harder! We will be back, and as soon as possible.

A friend and I spent a wonderful overnight stay at the prestonfield in order to enjoy a friends performance in the taste of Scotland show at the near by Stables. We arrived by taxi, as soon as you pull up the drive way of this historic country retreat which is just 15 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh it takes your breath away. Peacocks and rabbits roam the grounds immediately outside the house itself, with the fields near by being home to highland stock. This is all topped off with the dramatic sight of Arthur's Seat towering away in the background. The house itself is simply beautiful with all of the lounge rooms filled with beautiful art, antiques and family heirlooms. From the moment the concierge opened the doors of our taxi nothing was to much trouble, our luggage was taken directly to our rooms while we went through a smooth check in process, our luxury twin room was elegant and beautiful, the room was filled with every 5 star requirement and extremely comfortable beds. We spent some time sipping champagne cocktails on the house balcony over looking the drive and gardens. and following our evening at the stables enjoyed night caps in the horse room before retiring to our room. We both fancied watching one of the DVD's listed in the room guide and this was brought to us without hesitation. After a comfortable nights sleep we indulged in the most beautiful breakfast ive ever had to the pleasure to be a part off. Its served in the Rhubarb Restaurant and begins with helping yourself to a beautifully presented buffet of cereals, fruits, yoghurt's and fresh juice. Tea and Coffee along with toast is brought to the table when orders are taken for the hot breakfast dish, i enjoyed Hot smoked Salmon (a good sized fillet) and scrambled eggs whilst friend had duck eggs Benedict. It was all delicious, a truly unforgettable end to a wonderful stay, we are now looking at staying again for Hogmanay and taking part in the Hogmanay Ball.

Room Tip: All rooms are simply beautiful if possible choose a suite.

My husband and I held our family dinner the night before our wedding several years ago at Prestonfield in the Leather/Tapestry/Stuart Rooms (people still talk about how amazing it was) and we vowed to return for a stay on an anniversary trip. We finally made it back for a stay in June 2013, and this was our final stop of 5 on our tour of Scotland. We treated ourselves to the Owner's Suite, where I spent two days and nights feeling like royalty. I highly recommend this Suite for a romantic getaway or special event (anniversary, proposal, wedding night etc).

The Suite's rooms (including private entryway) are fabulous with real old world charm and great views in 3 directions. Anything we wanted was just a phone call away (including breakfast room service at no additional charge). The WiFi was a bit temperamental, but we could always get at least one of our devices/passwords to work after a bit of fussing.

One young man (whose name escapes me) was exquisite. As we were staying at The Witchery two nights prior, he was our "valet" and drove us in the Prestonfield Range Rover for both transfers, handled our luggage/golf clubs, remembered us by name every time we saw him, and no matter how busy, always greeted us sincerely.

Really the only let-downs were: 1) on the Sunday (our only full day), the House was overrun with special events (a wedding and birthday and who knows what else). We had trouble just getting up and down the stairway and through the foyers to enter and exit the property--we felt in the way...yet we were staying in the most expensive suite! We had family stop by to visit us, and there was nowhere for 7 of us to sit down for a beverage refreshment at 4 pm in any of the public rooms...not what you'd expect at a 5-star location. Surely they'd leave at least one public room open for guests? Thank goodness we had the owner's suite, as there was plenty of room to shuttle everyone upstairs, and the staff delivered our drink order quite quickly.

2) We'd made a reservation for 8 pm Sunday dinner in Rhubarb. The first time we'd dined there was a few months before our wedding, and we had the most wonderful, romantic meal. We returned with high expectations. Unfortunately, at the table next to us was an ill-mannered family that seemed terribly out of place: dad, mom, and two kids (maybe aged 3 and 7). The 3 year old (dressed in sweats or pajamas?) kept standing on his chair, jumping on the floor, and fussing about right behind my husband's chair. The parents seemed oblivious to his ill behavior, as did the staff. After an hour, we'd had all we could take, and we asked our coffee and dessert to be served in our suite. Not exactly the romantic dinner we'd expected...and a buzz-kill to our last night in Edinburgh. In addition, the menu had changed quite a bit since we were last there. Only one thing appealed to both of us (steak), and it just didn't taste that good. The starters were not all that tasty or appealing either. Now, maybe we'd just been spoiled after eating at Gleneagles (The Strathearn, Andrew Fairlie) and Castle Terrace, but I'd enjoyed my local fish and chips in Arrochar more than this meal.

So, I would definitely return again for tea, but not sure I would stay again or eat in Rhubarb, based on our recent experience. But despite the hiccups, it is a wonderful, unique property on the outskirts of Edinburgh that shouldn't be missed.

Room Tip: The Owner's Suite is sheer over-the-top luxury and indulgence (old world style...remember it is...
