“Central Hotel”

Stayed for one night on 2nd January. Booked through Laterooms and got an excellent deal - £49 for Bed and Breakfast for 2 people. We got checked in at 1pm which was really good. I had asked for a higher floor and a quiet room and that is exactly what we got. Didn't hear any noise at all which is surprising considering how busy the hotel was. Guests of the hotel receive 25% off the parking charge when you park at the station car park which is just a few minutes walk away. The rooms are functional and clean and suited us fine for one night. The reception staff were very pleasant at check in and when we checked out. Breakfast was very good with a varied choice but I would advise going down before 9 o'clock because after that it seemed to get quite chaotic. This is the second time we have stayed here and would definitely stay again especially for the price we paid.

The location is fantastic, right off the Royal Mile. The staff was very attentive and helpful with problems and with giving recommendations. One of our rooms smelled terribly of smoke, and they changed it immediately. Breakfast was very good, and the only complaint about the room is that the hot water in the shower was very slow; practically only dripped. Wi-fi should be free, at least in the lobby. Rooms on the first floor get substantial street noise.

Room Tip: The street out front can be noisy. Stay either high up or away from the street.

Spent one night as a party of 3 . The hotel for the price was great and to include breakfast even better. We wanted somewhere near The Playhouse and this was the best deal we could find. It was our first visit but definately won't be our last.

Room Tip: We were offered front or back but decided on front for the view. Receptionist said back would be qui...

We booked Jurys edinburgh over the new year and took along my partners' daughter and her friends - we decided to upgrade a little and plump for the best available rooms. The check-in was quick - apart from declining my partners bank card for no reason. The rooms were clean enough: towels available and toiletries in the dispensers. However, for what we paid, all we could see that was extra was a copy of the Scotsman newspaper, two bottles of water and two individually wrapped biscuits. Not the height of luxury, but we were glad of our rooms.
So, we stayed in the hotel for four nights:
-we werent told we could get 10% off the bar meals - had to read about it in the lift.
- We had only one newspaper on day one. No more complementary copies the rest of our stay.
- I had moved the two packs of individual biscuits to beside my case - to be honest, I was going to take them on the train on the journey back up. When room service had been in, the biscuits had been moved and put back on the glasses, with no replacements. So, housekeeping had seen the biscuits in with some other items I had purchased, removed them and re-used them. hmm.
-Housekeeping woke us up at 0930 on New Years Day by walking into our room the apologising. This happened to my partners daughter twice during her stay. They were also incredibly loud, and could hear the vacum banging the skirtings right along the corridor.

There were some perplexing episodes 'tho......almost twilight zone-ish at times........
I. The barman in the hotel bar. Arrogant and cocky beyond words. Was trying to place an order for food and drinks and without even looking at me, he told me that it wasnt available. I was in the middle of talking to him and he started serving someone else at the bar. When I asked for the 10% discount that we were entitled too he told me he didnt know what I was talking about. Unhappy at this, I went to reception and asked whether I was mistaken. When the receptionist phoned the barman, she was still talking to him and he put the phone down on her. His manner was unbelievable ....The manager was unavailable, however, to her credit, she contacted us later and left a bottle of wine in our rooms - a nice gesture.
II. Sitting having breakfast this morning and in walked two young guys who looked down on their luck (i.e. not hotel guests) picked up some food from the buffet (fingers and all) and walked out again. I looked in disbelief at the staff member at the breakfast reception and it was clear she also seen it. I found it worrying that people could just walk in off the street and into a hotel where people, while at the buffet having their breakfast have left their bags at their tables. Don't get me wrong, I am all for sharing with others less fortunate but this was not right, from a security perspective.
Will I be back? No, unfortunately, the service was not up to scratch and allowing non-hotel guests to walk in, help theirselves to food and leave without asking questions, I found unsettling from a security perspective.

Room Tip: don't bother with the upgraded rooms - a lot of money for bottled water and shortbread. Put the...

Excellent value. Bear in mind we paid £49 ! B&B (2 people) 30/12/12 . Great location. Be careful on parking as you will need to feed meters or use a local private car park. Go by train if possible as its beside the Waverley Station. Excellent breakfast, I always find the Jury;s breakfast to be good value. Be careful about room location. Try to get a high room facing the Waverley, great views, but be careful about noise from revellers passing the hotel after late night discos close bye close. We were woken up by some drunks, but to be honest, this can happen and it wasnt any fault of the hotel.....take ear plugs just in case!

Room Tip: Ask for fifth floor facing the Calton Hill

Stayed here over the new year and couldn't really find fault with it. The location is better than any other hotel; however you do hear the train announcements but they're not very loud. I'm a light sleeper and I managed to sleep very well. We were asked if we wanted a room with a view which we got at no extra cost - bonus! Also we going the breakfast to be good and staff nice and friendly. My only one point was that we asked if there was any space on new years day and told no. We asked again to make sure when we left and we were told there was space and price was reasonable but by then it was too late to cancel our other hotel. However they were willing to store our luggage for as long as necessary which was nice.

Hotel easy to find as it is very near the railway station (just 3min walk), very dim room especially with no sun during our stay. Room were quite clean, size consider decent for the price.

However, their key cards are always not working properly and we have to approach the hotel staff numerous time through out our stay to change it, and a few times the staff insisted that the cards are working fine but we have to try many times before getting it to work. So I'd say the card system should be upgraded to be more sensitive.

Hotel bar serve decent food for dinner, breakfast were relatively decent too but nothing fancy.

No mini bar or fridge in the room, except one bottle of spring water placed on the TV desk which we didn't drink at all, but were told by the front desk receptionist during our check out that we had it on our 2nd night of stay. When we clarify that we didn't drink anything from the room, she just replied us "nevermind", charges were waived but no apology were made for this misunderstanding which is clearly the hotel's mistake.

Overall decent hotel, but wouldn't return.
