Once again we spent a few nights in THE BONHAM and were entirely satisfied:
- complimentary upgrade to the large room 104 (brilliant!)
- very friendly and helpful staff
- free parking in the backyard (that alone worth a small fortune)
- very good breakfast.
In one word: excellent!

Room Tip: 100 is quirky, 104 luxurious!

We stayed here over NY and the hotel was busy and despite that the hotel and hotel staff were well organised and extremely friendly and accommodating. We honestly cant praise the staff here enough, if only other establishments in the UK and around the world had similar teams.

Other positives included the decor (a tad dated in parts but generally good), the size of the rooms (and we booked the smallest, previous posters who've complained about the size of the rooms should get a sense of perspective, there are places, and we know that have smaller rooms than the Bonham), the location of the hotel, the bar area and bar food were also excellent and reasonably priced.

On a slightly less positive note and areas where we think with a few tweaks they could improve are the beds. For us they were far too soft and we literally felt every move each other made. And finally the breakfast, it was good but not outstanding. A couple of tweaks and it would be e.g. fresh fruit opposed to the fruit salad on offer (not sure if is was tinned or not but it didn't look appetising) and the yoghurts. That said about the breakfast it is by far no where near as bad as the previous post from wmacscotland. The butter and toast portions are more than adequate and if they're not then simply ask for more the staff at breakfast are very accommodating and brought us anything. I guess it pays to be nice.

A good stay and a place we 'd return to. Our more "negative" comments are either personal preference or small tweaks that need to be made to make this an even greater place!

I recently attended my Grandad's 90th here and it was fantastic. We had hired their conference room for 30 people for a three course meal. Everything we asked they delivered on. The room itself was a perfect size and beautifully decorated. It was VERY reasonably priced and the food was delicious. Big thanks to Judith who set the room up for us before hand with our decorations and projector. Special thanks goes to our waiter who went above and beyond, he was fantastic and very polite (unfortunately I can only remember his last name which I think was Thomson). My grandad had the most wonderful evening and if you are looking for a nice way to spend a special birthday I would definitely recommend the Bonham.

Quick one night trip to Edinburgh with the wife, the package included an evening meal which worked out great value.

Hotel/ room good if not wow. Really like the location, out of the way but we could still walk everywhere around the city.

Four of us, two couples, went for an overnight stay between Christmas and New Year. Sadly, the Bonham, though pleasant enough, didn't live up to expectations. The rooms we were given were the smallest available, despite having been booked well in advance and despite the hotel being quiet. When we asked for bigger rooms the staff (East European, of course) said they'd 'see to it'. I take it they're still doing that and, presumably, still 'seeing to' sending us up a copy of the dinner menu too for it never arrived. The menu on display was out of date. Not that it would have made much difference because when we did have dinner what was on the menu didn't always coincide with what was served. The 'slow-cooked' sirloin was in fact a strangely cut piece of meat which had clearly been pan-fried. My wife's sirloin was tough to the extent that it was practically indestructible and we received a discount from the bill. That said, the dinner was excellent and service very good. I'd certainly go back for a meal. I hate to dwell on the negatives, but things we found annoying were that the fact that some of the towels seemed to have been dragged along a floor or something and were dirty and the newspapers were all from the day before. But the big disappointment was breakfast; pretty much what I look forward to most from a night away. Although we had booked 'bed & breakfast' apparently that this din't include a cooked breakfast. We pointed out that the rate we paid was in fact more than what they charged for bed & Scottish breakfast so we had naturally assumed we could have something hot at that price. 'Take it up with Expedia' we were told. No problem, the continental breakfast would be fine - or so we thought. I don't know which continent the breakfast was from, but it must have been famine-striken. A choice of two cold meats, the cheapest type of salami or ham from pig that must have died from obesity. Two cheeses, some cheap cartons of yogurt, packets of cereal and a basket of breakfast rolls you could have bounced of the walls made up the rest of what was on offer. Yes, it all had that Edinburgh: "you'll have had your tea" feel to it. Three slices of toast between four people, for instance, but most hilariously of all the butter provisions - I hadn't realised rationing was still in force in certain parts of Auld Reekie. On our butter plate was a piece of butter the size of one of those individually wrapped portions. We asked for more. Same again. We asked for more to go with some extra toast (another two slices arrived) and incredibly an even smaller piece of butter arrived! It put me in mid of Chic Murray's famous gag when presented with an tiny jar of honey, and he says to the landlady, "I see you keep a bee." Doesn't quite work with butter, but the Bonham breakfast does you a Gulliver's travel, Lilliput, type of experience. It's a shame because one of the friends I was with works for a major investment company. He often has to put visitors up in hotels in Edinburgh and was scouting the Bonham as a possible addition to his list. Don't get me wrong, there were certain positives. The Bonham is well located. The staff very friendly and dinner pretty good. Maybe we were unfortunate to book in during the flat days between Christmas and New Year - and after the cow had died.

This boutique hotel in Edinburgh has really got its act together. For a long time it has been a sleeping treasure just a tease off the beaten track in the West End of town. The dining experience is simply beautiful. Good friendly service, a great menu in an intimate but uncluttered restaurant, and food to titillate even the most discerning palates. We just loved it. The starters, mains and the thoughtful and delicious deserts were special. These were complemented by an excellent selection of wines and spirits which made for a very special night out for our party of six. We will certainly be back. The only plea I would make is to improve the pre-dinner experience in the bar area. It is functional but just lacks atmosphere, warmth and cosiness. A few bar stools, improved layout and a bit of repartee would improve things immensely. That said, The Bonham provies a wonderful fine dining experience at a price that simply boggles the mind. Well done to all the staff. Go, you will not regret it.

Room Tip: Leave room for the deserts, they are excellent.

This was our 2nd stay at The Bonham and it was just as good as the 1st time. It is in a lovely quiet crescent but close enough to walk to the centre.
We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, although we had a slightly smaller room this time it was still very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
We didn't dine here but had breakfast which was excellent. I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip.
