“Enjoyable weekend stay at The Bonham”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Stayed for the weekend at The Bonham Hotel. Hotel easy to find, just a 10 minute walk from Haymarket Station. Check-in was very professional. The receptionist was very helpful and provided us with a map of Edinburgh.

We stayed in room 211 which was perfectly acceptable for our needs and had a nice view overlooking the north of the city. The furniture was a little tired in places (noticed our table had lots of chips/scratches in the varnish) and the floor didn't look like it had been vacuumed. If you are taking the stairs to your room - there are no signs in the main stairwell telling you which door to use. These are only minor niggles and would certainly not stop me from staying again.

We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food. The hotel is within walking distance to the city centre and takes around 10-15 minutes. A taxi from the centre of the city to the hotel cost us £6.00. The hotel also stored our bags for us free of charge after checkout. This was very helpful as we could enjoy the rest of the day in the city without carrying our bags around until we caught the train home.

The Bonham is a lovely little hotel and we would not hesitate in recommending it to others looking to stay in Edinburgh.

We stayed here recently for my birthday using an Itison voucher and I cant recommend it highly enough. The staff were friendly throughout and the room & food great. We had a front facing room with a bathroom and it was small but stylish (the bathroom was a bit dated/worn, but I understand they are in the middle of a renovation). We arrived with rose petals on the bed, chocolates and fizzy wine which was lovely and then went down for delicious 3 course dinner and had breakfast in bed the following day – all delicious. The only problem we had was the wine wasn’t cold so we asked for it to be chilled and to have it with dinner – but at dinner they couldn’t find a cold bottle. The manager smoothed it over wonderfully and even with this issue, I can’t fault the service. Overall the reception rooms, restaurant and bedrooms are all stylish and have a great atmosphere together with friendly & professional service makes this a great stay.

My wife and I spent two nights here at the end of January, 2013. We had an unusually good experience. The hotel itself has character. You really feel that you are in Scotland. The staff is superb, the cuisine is tops, and the room (108) was stylish and very comfortable. The bathroom was a tad too small, but given everything else that was positive, we're not complaining.

We had a good deal, too: A special price that included breakfast and dinner. An excellent value for the money. It was a "January Special," so I don't know if it's available at other times of the year. If not, perhaps the overall cost would push us to a less expensive hotel.

The hotel is in a good spot near to all the main roads and is a nice building, although not much in terms of pubs or restaurants in the immediate vicinity.... Overall no complaints and the staff were helpful and the bottle of champagne was on ice as requested upon arrival. The room was nice with interesting décor and furniture. I thought the amenities where a little lacking in terms of coffee and tea etc.

The building is old and floors squeak so I was woken up by next door who was in and out around 7am on a Saturday! For the price I paid it was great, but think there are better options if you are willing to pay the premium.

This is a classic, well kept Hotel with very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff. Was an absolute pleasure staying there. We only stayed one night but had dinner there (which was amazing!), and found the overall stay a very relaxing and faultless one. Was a 10 minute walk from Princes street, and enough away from it that it was a quiet location.

Would highly recommend :o)

Room Tip: Would not imagine that the front of the hotel is noisy as its in a quiet location but 2nd floor, roo...

I stayed in the Bonham in December and this was my first trip to Edinburgh so I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say the city was fantastic but I think the whole stay was improved upon by my experience at the Bonham.

The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, going out of the way to book dinner reservations and suggest places to visit. The food was excellent, and we took advantage of the in room breakfast everyday.

We were given a room at the front of the hotel which was very large with huge floor to ceiling sash windows, which allowed a lot of light in and made the room seem light and airy, despite the cold grey of december!

Overall we were made to feel extremely welcome and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit this amazing city.

Room Tip: I took a standard room facing the square which ws more than adequate.

Stayed here a few times - the service is always impeccable, location great (central but very quiet), food is outstanding and the hotel is comfortable and welcoming, great mix of stylish modern and traditional decor. Latest visit was Christmas Eve and the hotel staff made a big effort to make everyone feel welcome and included - even down to an unexpected Bucks Fizz in the morning. Breakfast is fantastic - almost like home made, and miles better than any other hotel brands. It has the feeling of 5 star service in a boutique hotel - completely recommend this place to stay in Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Try a room at the rear - fantastic views of north Edinburgh
