“Fun intro to the world of Whisky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014 via mobile

Well I never knew there was so much to know about whisky. I had gone on the silver tour but there were more expensive tours available that included more.

The tour itself starts with a sit on ride that takes you through the process of making whisky which is very informative. However the better part follows with a sit down talk from a guide who explains the different types of whisky. You then get to sample a whisky of your choice depending on what you fancy. You're then taken through to see the massive whisky collection which is very impressive. The tour finishes in a bar where you can purchase further whisky to try unless you've gone for a high price tour in which case these look to be included. You also get to keep the whisky glass which is a nice touch.

Once you've finished in the bar you exit via the shop which as you can imagine is fully stocked with every type do whisky imaginable. Couldn't leave without buying a bottle or two.

Worth a visit even if whisky isn't your thing. You might even come to like it after trying one and understanding a bit more about it.

“Fun introduction to the world of whisky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2014

To be honest I didn't like whisky and just went together with a friend to do her a favour. In the end I had a really good time and learned some basics about whisky and even found a whisky I enjoyed drinking. Our guide was very nice and entertaining, unfortunately the tour seemed a bit rushed, an extra 10mins. Would have been better.

“More famous than informative”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2014 via mobile

We had the Silver Tour: it shows in a very very simple way how the whisky is made and has a small explanation of the regions of Scotland and its whiskies. Better to visit a destilary or go for Wikipedia. I did not like it.

Hi Fernanda,

Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback on our Silver Tour. We regret that your experience was not more to your liking. We feel that our Tour imparts a lot of information into one hour, with explanations on how whisky is produced, how whisky is matured, the effect of the four whisky regions upon the taste of whisky, the blending process, and of course, how to taste Scotch whisky to appreciate it fully. We try to impart this information in a fun, informal and engaging way, which as you will see from other reviews, usually works very well.

Should you prefer more information covered, and a more cerebral style of presentation, our 'Morning Masterclass' or 'Platinum Tour' may have been more to your liking.

“Great shop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2014

This relates only to the shop inside, we did not do the "experience". It's better to see a real distillery in my opinion.
The shop, however, is really great! Sorted by areas, they have a great selection, also of special bottles. Lots of small bottles, as well, if you are looking for more variety. Not only single malts, also blends and liqueurs, if you are looking for these.
The staff was very nice, they let you browse on your own and are helpful if you have questions.
If you want to buy whisky in Edinburgh, this is the place.

“Expensive but amusing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014

Very close to the castle and across from camera obscura, we decided that this would be something interesting to do. It goes through an amusement park type ride introduction to whiskey making and then you get to have a presentation where they talk to you about the different areas in Scotland that make whiskey and the different flavors or smells the whiskey may have. Then you get to taste a type of whiskey of your choosing or if you pay a bit more, you can try them all. You also get to see this amazing collection of whiskeys! If you are short on time, it's a good choice because the whole thing lasts about an hour.
