“Lots of shops and great views”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

There is a variety of shops in the street, but the nicest part is the other side where you can appreciate amazing views from the old town, a must in Edinburgh.

“Always busy, great for tourists”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Over the years there seems to be getting less and less good shops on Princes Street but still a few remain - notably Jenners at East End and Frasers in the West End. Quite a few tourist shops.
You get a good view of the castle and various Edinburgh monuments

“Edinburgh's disgrace”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

What was once a vibrant street full of interesting diverse shops is now just an elongated and more tawdry retail experience that you'd find in any British town or city.

With the exception of Jenners Dept Store this is a alley of unrelenting disappointment. Fast food outlets, phone shops, card shops and the tartan tat gift shops that give Scotland a bad name.

Somewhere along the line Edinburgh Council forgot that this street has the best urban vista in the whole of the country. They allowed it to become barren and unremarkable. And they still charge one of the highest prices per square foot of anywhere in Britain.

Avoid Princes Street and go one back to George Street. That is Edinburgh's premium retail environment alongside quirky little districts like Stockbridge, Morningside, Broughton Street and parts of The Old Town.
