Really cool place to meander. Ancient buildings and streets make this one of the coolest 'main tourist hubs' I've ever visited. Of course there are many tourist shops filled with the usual dreck, but overall it is quite a unique and worthwhile street to peruse and wander.

Lots of shops, restaurants, bars on the Royal Mile. Also holds a few museums and churches and little alleyways with steps that lead you to other parts of the town.

This is where lots happens - buskers, shops, the Scotch Experience - most walking tours start here - great for people watching - slipping down a close - sipping coffee/eating al fresco - government bldgs, churche - just lots - a don't miss no brainer

The Royal Mile has a wonderful array of shops and bars. You could spend more than a day just enjoying the atmosphere and spending all your money on Scottish goods.

It is a bit overwhelming at first but once you settle into the crowds and take the time to stop and look into the shops, it is quite enjoyable.
