we visited this on a bus tour it was nice to see Scotish history and hear the tales behind the city. Quite an unsteady walk so be aware of safe footing.

Great area for kilt shops and cafes, with a beautiful church well worth a visit. The area is always lively with street entertainers. This place is a must visit for all foreign tourists!

We walked down the Royal Mile and back up, we looked in various shops, and with two or three exceptions, they were all selling the same stuff at inflated prices. The Royal Mile is itself very attractive with some great buildings but someone needs to control the tat sold there.

Although I only saw the Palace from the outside, I really enjoyed walking the Royal Mile for the sense of history, the imposing ancient buildings and the unusual shops. You can find gifts you wont find anywhere else in the world and they are not made in China!

Went during the Fringe. So much activity and people from all over the world. Really tried to shop in the Scottish owned stores. There are only about three of them left. Other stores sell "Scottish" goods which are made elsewhere. The true Scottish stores are owned by Scots and sell products which have been made there. It was important for me that my tourist dollar went to the Scottish people.
