We stayed on Canongate right in the middle of things and spent a lot of time just walking around the Old Town. Unless you are up on Scots history many of the statues and other monuments will not mean much but the atmosphere of the place is great.

Lots of cobble stone streets, with many smaller closes and wynds that make the layout interesting. The city is very compact. There are lots of stairs and inclines/ hills so be prepared. We happened to see stunt men on rooftops and a camera crew filming an action movie. Learned later it’s for a Fast and Furious movie. We also hung out in the Meadows Park which has a college vibe- given the university is right there.

Great place to visit, but this time of the year you do need a rain mac and good walking shoes. There’s so much to see and do, great shops everywhere and lots and lots of places to eat. You can be out for the whole day.
