This review covers the Howard's Afternoon Tea only. I pre-booked and asked for the Drawing Room rather than the Dining Room and was glad I had. We were shown to 2 lovely comfortable high-backed chairs by the window which you could just sink into. The layout of the room with high-backed sofas and chairs was such that you felt quite secluded in your own space even when more people arrived. The dining room by contrast looked more formal with white table clothes and a more open feel. The afternoon tea itself was lovely, I particularly enjoyed the sweets - a very nice mix of different things with a good balance between fruit and chocolate items. There was a nice choice of teas too and we were offered additional pots. We both opted for a glass of champagne which had a good flavour to it. The service was very attentive and friendly throughout, the only hitch being the person who tried to describe what they had just delivered who struggled a little - not a problem for us but perhaps a little more training required. I found the bread for the sandwiches a little dry in some but overall it was a good experience and very reasonably priced for central Edinburgh.

I was treated by my son to a night at this delightful hotel. Due to the flight we arrived about 10.30 am, and although obviously our room was not ready, we were made very welcome, able to leave luggage, and coffee and biscuits was provided FOC. The staff were extremely charming and nothing was too much trouble. My son had been in touch with them re restaurant recommendations and he told me they had been extremely helpful

The room was comfortable, very quiet for central Edinburgh and with a huge bathroom, lovely big bath and separate shower. It was extremely well located just a 7 minute walk to Princes Street and the lovely George Street. It was a haven of tranquillity to return to. Well done the Howard, you have got it just right!

A late booking for a well earned break and we weren't disappointed. Everything about the hotel was first class and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone. Staff went out of their way to arrange flowers on a Bank holiday. All in all couldn't fault the place. Will certainly return.

Where to start? It is impossible to rate The Howard alongside other 5 star hotels as, well, it's just so unique.

The main selling point for The Howard is its team of butlers. My first thought was this was a bit OTT - until I arrived! You are treated like royalty every minute you are inside this incredible establishment. You want a coffee? A butler will bring you one day or night. Glass of wine? No problem. Shoes need polished or trousers pressed? It's all second nature in this wonderfully opulent Georgian restoration.

Treat someone you love or treat yourself but make The Howard your premier destination!

Booked on a last minute site to treat my friend for her 40th. Loved the boutique nature and the real 'new town Edinburgh' feel of the hotel. Asked if we could possibly have a cake to surprise my friend and despite the short time scale this was duly sourced , well done!! She loved it.

We stayed in the Dundas room down stairs, my only complaint was that this felt a bit 'out the way', appreciate some may like that. Had hoped for a roll top bath but didn't get that. Huge big bathroom though.

Gorgeous breakfast with super staff. All in all a really lovely hotel. Thanks!

Our family of 4 with 2 small children stayed at this amazing hotel for 3 nights in a Suite on the first floor (or second depending on where you are from :)) I would not qualify this hotel as a family hotel, however the staff has been fantastically accommodating by placing the necessary additional cots and catering to our every need to make us feel perfectly relaxed and pampered. The hotel is a full of proper old-world charm (think waiter at the breakfast remembering exactly what each member of the family had before) with all the modern amenities (proper strong shower with full body massagers in the bathroom) and incredible add-ons such as complimentary shirt-press which you won't find in most world class business chains. One day we will return here without the kiddies for a nice romantic stay.

Dear Olga,

We would like to thank you for taking your time in reviewing our property on TripAdvisor. We are glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us and that our service had met with your standards. As you have noticed we are not the 'typical' hotel for children as we do not provide a playground or a specific entertaining space for children but we do hope that it didn't cause any inconvenience to your holidays.
Thank you once again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back on your romantic break!

Kind regards,
Leon Kiteley
