Flew over from Belgium with my wife for her birthday weekend and loved the hotel. From the check in to departure we enjoyed our stay immensely and the staff were fantastic and very accommodating. We had a Deluxe King looking up at the castle and the room was lovely and the view superb. The location is great, a two minute walk to Usher Hall where we saw a concert and across the road from shops and many, many pubs and places to eat. I would highly recommend staying here and we will be back for sure.

We did have an issue with the bathroom light and called for someone to check. To my embarrassment you need to make sure one of the 'main' lights is turned on at the door otherwise the bathroom light won't turn on. :-)

We fulfilled a long held ambition by staying at The Caledonian in December, the hotel at Christmas is a sight to behold. We checked in along with my partners mother who we were treating to a pre Christmas break and as Gold card holders were upgraded to deluxe rooms.
Check in was smooth and efficient though I was surprised that as Gold card members we weren't entitled to a complimentary breakfast.
This shouldn't be a concern though, there are numerous places across this great city that offer fantastic food at excellent prices.
The hotel is a grand building and no room is the same, our two rooms were vastly different but still fell under the deluxe bracket. On the Saturday night we had drinks in The Calley Bar on Saturday night and spent time in Peacock Alley but didn't dine in the hotel.
Given the chance I would happily return to this hotel or it's sister hotel at Haymarket, Hilton has two very strong properties in Edinburgh.

Dear Stash212,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your stay at Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh! I am delighted you enjoyed your pre Christmas stay at ‘The Caley’. I am pleased your stay lived up to your expectations and you were able to relax and enjoy the atmosphere in Peacock Alley. Breakfast is not currently one of our of gold or diamond HHonors benefits in ‘The Caley’ and I am pleased this will not deter you from visiting in the future.

What can I say had a great time in great surroundings, friendly staff throughout the whole staff team..and special thanks to Neil the doorman who told us of the history of the hotel, the people who stayed..this man knows this hotel..totally interesting..:-)
Also the lovely way bed was turned down every night, slippers placed at your bed, and classical music put on..what a lovely touch.
Breakfast was also fab, ( especially the haggis!)
My only winge was my window view was inside and onto scaffolding ..but hay-ho you can't have it all..:-)

We recently visited the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian for afternoon tea and very much enjoyed the experience.
Taking afternoon teas in select hotels around the world is a bit of a thing for us, something which gives us great enjoyment, so I'm always keen to review them.
We had ours in the Peacock Alley within the hotel which is a lovely room, created in the space that was the former ticket office and station concourse of the old railway station, so it has a lovely feel to it.
The champagne and food were of course delicious, with a range and selection that was, in our opinion, just right.
What made our afternoon really special, however, was the excellent service we received from all members of staff, and they should be congratulated for that.
If you're in Edinburgh sometime - treat yourself here!

We wanted to show our granddaughter (aged 10) Edinburgh as treat for her birthday. It was a great success - staying at the Caledonian was a good location the staff were friendly and very helpful, the Galvin Brasserie catered for us and for her very well and she loved a daily swim in the pool which was well kept. If only the weather had been as good as the hotel !

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
