We stayed one week and had two rooms. The staff everywhere, from the concierge to the restaurant, front desk, spa and housekeeping have been great. This hotel is situated in a great location on the west side of town, close to many great restaurants, shopping, and tour stops. Heated towel racks and warm fluffy bathrobes make for comfortable accommodations on blistery, cold days. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the castle!

You cannot get better than this for a romantic week's holiday! From the friendly staff to the excellent food and great room, we had a perfect time. We could walk to all city locations, which was a nice bonus. (We did not have a car so I can't speak about parking.) The room was a good size and the bathroom was very large, so it was very relaxing.

One night stay although expensive was worth every penny. Booked afternoon tea package in peacock alley all staff very attentive in beautiful surroundings, lovely sandwiches, scones and cakes with great variety of teas.
Request for early check in was no trouble and room near elevator as I am in crutches no noise what so ever which was an added unexpected bonus.
Only slight criticism was breakfast hot buffet selection had no beans or mushroom to accompany which is a bit unusual, although plenty of choice from both hot and cold selections.
We will definitely return.

I stayed here with my husband for two nights (24th and 25th march) for our 4 year wedding anniversary. I emailed them a few weeks in advance to tell them it was our anniversary and they replied the same day acknowledging the email. We arrived at 1130am to early for check in but went to see if we could leave our bags, fortunately our room was ready but even better then that we had been given a free upgrade! Queen room with castle view AMAZING.
We were impressed from the minute we walked up to the door the doorman was smartly dressed and pleasant and the reception staff were every polite and friendly. We went up to our room on the second floor, when we walked in we were very impressed it was a huge room and the castle was right outside the window.
The rooms was large as was the bed, immaculately clean, the bathroom was big with bathrobes and slippers ... The softest bathrobes I have EVER FELT. The bed was really comfy and the pillows were the best I've experienced. The communal areas were clean and the staircase and bar/restaurant areas were beautiful.
We didn't eat or drink at the hotel to cant comment.
We went out on the first day for a few hours and when we went back to the room there was a plate with truffles and shortbread on the table with happy anniversary written in chocolate on the plate.
We were more than happy with our stay the hotel was beautiful and a great location., the staff were amazing friendly and immaculately presented.
The ONLY downside was the lump of toilet roll in one of the dressing gown pocket which had obviously been there and washed since the last guest and if that's all we can find to say as a negative then it shows how good this place is.

Loved it and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Email them in advance with a copy of your wedding certificate if it's for an anniversary as they...

I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian recently for one night when on business. As part of the Hilton (extended) group I was able to get all the benefits of being a HHonors Gold Member. The booking, check in and out were really professional. I was upgraded to a suite looking out over the park and castle which was so impressive I ordered continental breakfast in my room the following morning to make the most of the view.

The public rooms are lovely and I can recommend the Brassiere for a slightly less formal dining experience. For the heart of Edinburgh it was all surprisingly good value for money and so conveniently located. I will look no further in future and be back to stay.

I go to Edinburgh often and have stayed in a few hotels whilst there, none of which have ever been disappointing, many are very, very good. So standards are high in this city and the competition intense.
The Caly however is the one that hits all the sweet spots for me. It's a large hotel but somehow never feels impersonal as the staff are always friendly and helpful. The rooms overlooking the castle are fabulous and substantial in size. Would always stay here out of choice if I could.

Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
