Stayed here last weekend with my wife and this hotel has always been one of my favourite hotels in Edinburgh. Now a Waldorf Astoria hotel, the quality really shines through. Peacock Alley is simply stunning and the breakfast top quality. Bedrooms have been done to a very high quality finish. Great staff and friendly service. Operationally a fantastic hotel,

Booked for a 4 day trip. As soon as we arrived the front of house staff made us feel very welcome & when they knew it was my husband's birthday they upgraded our room along with wine, chocolates and birthday card. The hotel is fantastic but the staff are amazing. Galvin Brasserie de Luxe served excellent food, the Manager was very welcoming and the staff attentive, Liam you were great. Afternoon tea is a must. Overall we had a wonderful stay in Edinburgh, Would highly recommend you try the Caledonian experience you will not be disappointed.

We stayed here for a weekend over the Edinburgh festival and can't fault this hotel at all. It's in a great location, the hotel itself is gorgeous, the rooms are lovely and the staff where very helpful and friendly. It's got a really nice feel about it and the main lobby is very impressive. We would definitely stay here again and hopefully next time enjoy the spa too.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a view of the castle. We didn't bother upgrading as planned to spend most of our time out and about in the city and no in the room.

We have stayed previously at the Caledonian and were neither up nor down about the place when it was a Hilton it was just average but having stayed there for a weekend recently I must say what an improvement!!
The public areas have been renovated well and the innovation of Peacock Alley is really clever, its a great place to sit and chill .
We used our Honors points and for a small fee upgraded to a massive Deluxe room on the fifth floor and it was money well spent, the views were fantastic. I am an Edinburgh lad and I sometimes forget how lovely my city is (despite what the council does).
The room itself was well maintained and tastefully furnished the only slight downside was it took a while to get hot water in the bathroom but let the taps run a bit.The air conditioning worked well this time unlike the last, you need heat in Scotland in February.
Didn't use the spa so can't comment sorry.
The staff were pleasant, helpful and always acknowledged us.
You can't fault the location for Restaurants/Cinemas/Galleries etc.
Glad to see the Waldorf brand has put the Caledonian back at the top.

Room Tip: Go for a Deluxe room for the view but watch the rate.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay in Edinburgh. I had booked the Caledonian hotel as a Christmas present for my wife, coupled with a visit to see Singin' in the rain at the Festival Theatre. I chose the Caledonian as I wanted something special for our weekend and it certainly didn't disappoint.

The location is excellent, 10 minutes from either rail station on foot. Princes St is immediately accessible and there are a great variety of bars and restaurants nearby to choose from.

The door is manned during the day by two well-dressed gents, who I’m sure would know the area inside out if you needed any advice. Their presence lends a quality feel to the hotel from the outset and this is carried on into the lobby, with an impressive chandelier and a clean, modern check in desk. We were dealt with by the polite and friendly Riccardo and I was delighted our room was ready early (we'd requested an early check in as the show started at 2:30pm)

This let us get settled briefly and gave us a chance to check out the room before heading out into the city. The room itself was beautifully appointed and décor and finish was to a very high standard. The bed was firm but comfortable and there was plenty of space in the room, it was not cramped. The bathroom had quality fixtures and fittings throughout and everything was spotless. The IPod / IPhone speaker dock and the Nespresso coffee machine were great little additional touches in the room that served a real purpose whilst adding a touch of luxury. Our room was at the back of the hotel (we are relatively local anyway so see the castle on a regular basis) but nevertheless the view from the 5th floor was intriguing as it’s not a view you generally get of Edinburgh. In addition being at the back of the hotel the room was super quiet - you'd never know it was on the junction of 2 of Edinburgh's busiest roads.

The common areas of the hotel are in superb order, with a clean, fresh scent through the corridors and light pastel colours. The lower floors of the hotel have wide corridors and high ceilings, so you know it’s an old building, but the general upkeep was excellent throughout.

We returned from the Festival Theatre (a 10 minute taxi ride away) and took the chance to unwind in the leisure centre. The place is well equipped and very well appointed throughout, but it’s not an Olympic size pool so if you are a serious swimmer, be prepared to do a lot of laps! It was, however, nice and quiet and a great chance to relax in the spa bath, sauna and steam room, before getting ready for a night out.

We didn’t eat in the hotel itself as we had made plans for dinner and breakfast, but I have no doubt it would have complemented the hotel perfectly.

I must thank David Walker for his extremely professional manner and polite emails in advance of our stay and Malcolm in the lobby for taking care of a request very quickly and with the minimum of fuss during a busy period. Both demonstrated excellent customer service and are a credit to the hotel.

In summary we had an excellent night away at the Caledonian, so much so that my wife commented that the weekend had felt more like a mini break, which I think speaks volumes for the hotel and its ability to let you unwind and relax in luxury. It was superb in every regard and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a perfect base for a weekend break or longer.
