This hotel is an Edinburgh Classic, in its current form as a Waldorf Astoria it is top class. Rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. Particularly liked the coffee machine in the room. Very central location, the hotel is not cheap but you get the service and quality for the price you pay.

To stay in Edinburg, the Caledonian is a must.located in the heart of the city he his just in front of the royal palace ( the Castle ) you can watch from your window in your room, specially in the night when lighted.the amenities of this hotel are perfect, rooms are large and very well equipped ,with even an Espresso machine.Unfortunately no Wifi in the rooms without charge.breakffast is brilliant and large and service is very professional, specially on the desk with a very helpful concierge :ask about Salvador.we recommend the splendid bar at 7h for luxurious drink served by sympathetic bar women's before dinner in the Brasserie .
What else, it was a wonderful stay with my wife for 3 nights in Sotland

Room Tip: Choose a room in front of the Castle

Hotel #5 on our trip... Decadent is the first word that comes to mind. We arrived at 230pm and couldnt check in until 3pm (so factor that in on your travels) We stayed in triple room and it was superb. Spotless, plenty of room, good size bathroom and all you would need in your stay. Beautiful sitting areas and furnished superbly. Hotel also has good Wifi. To top of an exceptional hotel the breakfast we had included in our room was unbeliveable. My child felt like pancakes one morning and they were only to happy to cook a batch - service plus... Could rave forever about this hotel and highly recommend it. Definitely returning to the beautiful city of Edinburgh (what a happening place!) and most most definitely The Caledonian!

As hotels go in Edinburgh this one is one of the best!

>>>Good points:
Fantastic Location.
Food is great - Room Service, the Brasserie Restaurant or the Pompadour - all serve lovely food (also at Breakfast it serves the BEST Black Pudding).
Great place to drink - With a choice of the Main Bar (with a vast array of Whiskeys) to 'Peacock Alley' which the new trendy section they've recently opened.
The Service is exceptional - Front of house staff are friendly, helpful and courteous. The Concierge are brilliant, from help with luggage, sorting out taxis/restauarnts, polishing shoes, you name it they do it. A real freindly bunch who you can chat and have a joke with.
The Rooms are great - Nice big rooms with tall ceilings. All rooms have qulaity fixtures and fittings with big Baths and powerful showers with plenty of hot water,
There are lot's of nice touches too like complementary Wine, Chocolates, Fruit and Water. Not to mention the 'Turn-down crew' who wander the hotel mid-evening turning down your bed, closing your curtains, putting on your bedside lights and turning on the Bedside Radio - all adds to the feeling of being 'looked after'.
Great Gym - The Gym has recently been updated, I can't comment on the Galvin Treatments part, but the gym, pool and steam are very good.

>>>Bad points:
Breakfast is a bit expensive arounf £16
General Rooms rates can sometime e a bit pricey, but it is central and it is now a Waldorf Astoria -so it's only fair...

Room Tip: If you want a view of the Castle and have you windows open get a room on a higher floor - those room...

Well I havent stayed in a 5 star hotel before so was looking for something very special!
We managed to get a very good 2 night package, in a delux room incl breakfast and use of the spa for us 4 forty somethings!
The hotel is a very eyecatching traditional grand building in a fantastic central location with views of the castle.
Welcoming staff at reception and plenty of conceirge staff who were friendly and attentive.
Our delux rooms were spacious and clean and quite grand, with quality fixtures and fittings. The room had big comfy beds and was well equiped with everything you could want and the coffee machine a welcome bonus. Large stylish bathroom with luxurious robes and beauty products. Our only complaint was we thought the decor a bit cold and bland, lots of grey paint and amber wallpaper, a weird combination! No colourful curtains, cushions or throws to make it cosy or stylish.
Quite the opposite of the magnificient lounge, called "Peacock Alley" where the decor is simply stunning and the atmosphere upmarket but very comfortable.
We thought breakfast was very tasty, 5 star quality produce with plenty to choose from and the staff really helpful and friendly. Again while the room is traditional we thought the decor cold and uninspiring, lots of dark wood and blue upholstery!
The spa/pool area is a bit more funky and quite luxuriuous. Plenty towels, products and decent sized lockers.
We really enjoyed our mini break in Edinburgh, and stay at the Caley, but not sure if it was a 5 star experience, maybe 4 plus and glad we had got a special offer!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
