Description: The Queens Arms has been an Edinburgh fixture for many years; the latest incarnation finds it reborn as a gastropub, although long-time customers will be pleased to know that the renovation has preserved the layout and most of the original features. This new look is charming customers and critics alike they've recently scooped Best Gastropub at the 2010 DRAM (Drinks Retailing and Marketing) Awards. It's no wonder with the food they have on offer Scottish classics, really, but with a modern twist. Dishes like the Ayreshire slow-cooked pork belly, served with a haggis fritter and colcannon exemplify their dedication to sourcing quality local produce. It's not only the food that customers are praising though The Queens Arms also boasts friendly and efficient service and a solid offering of whiskies, cocktails and wine and beer (including several real ales). As well as serving delicious meals, the dcor - quirky original and new features, as well as cosy booth style seating - and the TV screens showing local matches mean this is an excellent place to while away a lazy afternoon in the city.

Sunday sharing lunch was excellent quality beef and vegetables. Deserts thrown in as a bonus very good value, suggest booking.

Called in a couple of times during our weekend in Edinburgh. Reasonably priced drinks and good atmosphere whether it was Thursday afternoon or Saturday evening. Added bonus to this was we were given a scratch card when we bought a pint and won two free pints! Safe to say, they've run out of them now!

What a fabulous, cosy place to eat and have a drink. Lovely friendly staff with a wonderful smell when you walk through the door. I loved the decor which was like being in a cosy library. We had the chicken and mushroom pie to share and it did not disappoint. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the chicken was fresh and not cubed so probably used a whole chicken to fill the pie dish. Just be careful going back up the stairs on your way out. They are steep and if you have eaten and drunk too much you may have a mishap!!!

As I’m on the mailing list for this favourite bar I received an email about their January half price food offer. I booked by email and it did take a couple of days to get a response. We were given one of the two person booths which is fine for drinks but turned out a bit small to cope with plates for food. Managed to get it organised as had the sharing plate so only needed side plates for our food. It would have been too small if we’d gone for the shared pie option. The food was tasty and well cooked. At the full price it would be expensive but as we got the 50% discount felt it was good value. We’ve seen the bar busier but they did seem short staffed and it took a while to get the bill - had to ask twice. We’d checked at the start that we’d be getting the January discount but it wasn’t shown on the bill. When we asked about this the server was a little huffy but replaced with the correct bill. Having just returned from the USA it’s clear that UK hospitality staff still have lots to learn about customer service. No acknowledgement or thanks as we left. So in summary food good but over-priced if paying full price and service - could do better.

The interior design and atmosphere knocks your socks off. By just opening the front door you realize how characterful is this pub. However, the pub seems to be good for just drinks as the food is not up to standard and they really need to work on the food quality.
Also, the menu needs more pub related choices and a bit of redesign. Generally a great place to hangout for once or twice.
