In the middle of the city, few steps from train station is one of the most beautiful and famous places! The Princes Street Gardens with Scottish National Gallery, green grass fields, view on the castle and old town... what else? :)

Lovely park. Clean and well kept. Recommend nipping to M&S on Princes St for sandwiches and having them in the park. Thought it was my idea and then spotted just about every one had an M&S bag!

The other side of the street from the shops this is a lovely place to sit and relax. Plenty of places to grab a snack and a drink too.

Right in the centre of Edinburgh and overlooked by Edinburgh Castle and Waverley train station. Scott monument is also here which you can ascend for £4 if you are feeling brave.

Could do with less cigarette ends on the grass. Not good with a crawling baby in our group.

You can see the locals eating lunch and enjoying the rare ray of sunshine here (if they feel the weather warming above 20 degress everyone is starting to take of their shirts...seriously). You have a nice view of the castle from here and of the bridge. If you turn around there is the busy Princess street behind you, but the gardens still have a very peaceful athmosphere to it.
