Owner description: St Giles’ Cathedral is the historic City Church of Edinburgh. With its famed crown spire it stands on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, it is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle (Scotland’s chivalric company of knights headed by the Queen). Please do not book any tours through TripAdvisor, as they are not endorsed by the cathedral.

Located around the top of the Royal Mile, you can visit it while you're making your way along it. It doesn't take long to visit but it is worth it. It is a beautiful cathedral with an amazing interior. If you go to the back of the Cathedral you will find the only angel in the world playing the bagpipes, which is pretty neat. It is a very nice visit, and they only ask for 2 Quid to take pictures but you will find enough to take pictures of that its well worth the price.

Visited after a gap of many years. Delighted how beautifully it has been restored. The stained glass windows have been cleaned and are sparkling clear telling there wonderful stories. The new Burns window is superb. The light paint work, cleaned stone work and new seating all add to the bright light feeling. It is a simple Scottish church not overly ornate but feels good.
The guide we had was excellant very knowledgeable and made it come alive. Also a huge plus it is free. Donations accepted and a couple of quid for photographs.

Worth a visit. I was very happy to pay the £2 as a photographer to get photos of the incredible stained glass windows. An island of peace along Edinburgh's Royal Mile.

Going into the cathedral is well worth it. There are a lot of stained glass windows which are beautiful. It is free to go in but a couple of pounds to take photos - which is fair enough.

A beautiful place. To have a more in depth experience an audio guide or guidebook would be useful. I liked the thistle chapel, and it is definitely worth stepping inside the church in order to have a better understanding of the surrounding neighbourhood
