Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

Was very busy, decided to buy tickets online with my phone to save the queues, would recommend do the same. We went around 11:00 and left around 3:30pm, when busy it might be difficult to see everything properly so make sure you give it enough time and don't rush it...it's £16 per adult... make it last!

Some of the areas are a bit narrow and difficult to stop to read the facts without blocking the way. Also I saw a few families with kids but not sure the youngsters were appreciating the visit as much as adults would do. Keep that in mind.

For £3.50 more you can have an audio guide, recommended especially if you don't read english well.

Go early - there is a ton of people when it is nice out! Also I would get an audio headset for the extra 3 pounds. There are very few signs indicating history and they are very simple. Definitely would have liked to see more detail written out without having to pay the extra. 16 pounds entry.

A very beautiful and amazing place! Can't miss it! Mystic place! Very organized and inside you have contact with lots of attraction, not only the castle.

Get there early in the summer months as the crowds are large. We didn't realize what a big castle this was. You have beautiful views over Edinburgh from all sides of the Castle. It was magical!!

This castle, high on a hill overlooking the city, is very well preserved and full of interesting historical exhibits. The views of Edinburgh on a clear day are spectacular.
