Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

Edinburgh Castle is awesome! It towers above Princes Street with wonderful views in every direction. It is steeped in military history. Beware of the one o'clock gun! Visit St Margaret's Chapel and the various restaurants and shops within its walls. From the Castle esplanade, over the drawbridge to the top of Castlehill there are many interesting features. The cobbles can be difficult to walk on so wear flat walking shoes and don't forget your camera. It is definitely a must when visiting Edinburgh.

We could have spent all day here - but there was almost too much to see/take in. Enjoyed looking at the prison cells and dormitories.Worth waiting for daily cannon at 1pm. Lovely views. Still thought entrance fee of £16 each was a bit pricey.

We visited the castle yesterday on a cold and windy day . However the weather didnt detract from our enjoyment . Lovely walk to the castle up the royal mile which has lots of traditional scottish shops .. The castle at the top of the royal mile is stunning ! Great views and we took loads of pics. Allow about 4 hrs for the trip . We paid extra for the audio guides and they were well worth it. Great museums , grand rooms , prison cells and the crown jewels well worth a look. Thorougly enjoyed the castle and highly recommend a visit to it .

I did think that it might be a bit pricey (£16 per adult and £5 for a programme) but I thought you got to see a lot for your money. It focused largely on the military aspects of Scotland but this is to be expected from a castle! We spent around 4 hours there and I'd go again!
