Owner description: This monument, although begun in 1822 was never finished. It was to have been an imitation of the Parthenon and now remains an unfinished but authentic part of Edinburgh's skyline.

“Good view”
Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

I do not think you would climb the hill just to see this monument. If you did you may be a little dissapointed. From the top of the hill you get a great view of the city and of Leith and the docks. You can even see the fourth rail and road bridges from the top. We climbed up in January and there were plenty of persons doing the same thing.

“One of the most interesting structures here”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

One of the most interesting structures here with the story behind it about how its builders and people behind it ran out of money and its been left under a quarter finished for over 100 years.

The thing I liked the most here is the view. The monument somehow doesn't fit in the city even though is impressive...

“Why is this Edinburgh's Disgrace?”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

How can this be Edinburgh's disgrace, when it is such a wonderful monument! It's always featured on the T.V. and is a national landmark of Scotland. Visit this on the Calton Hill.
