Got 5 saver nights here @£21 in early March 2014 = great value.

I think my 4th or 5th visit here over past few years...

Good stay: hotel in perfect location for railway/museums/shops/galleries with various very close facilities for papers/breakfast/snacks; room large & plenty of power sockets; bed & linens, the 'updated/new ones' very comfortable and slept well - only disturbed by knowing other guests in hotel [slamming room door] once. And the single lift was working 100% of the time too !

Was initially allocated a massive corner-room at back on 1st floor, but thought the room smelt rather musty [I feared a recurrence of issue of kitchen smells from the various restaurants/pubs on the ground floor of the building that had been aware of in previous years]. Readily reallocated a room up on the 4th floor which if anything smelt overly clean, but opening the window soon cleared that cleaning fluid smell. Sound insulation between rooms/floors has always seemed very good at this hotel.

A nearby bar was clearly having a 'music night' on I think Wednesday, which could have disturbed me IF I'd been trying to sleep early but given city centre location did NOT find noisy reversing lorry beeps, or rubbish trucks banging, or noisy glass bins tipping which CAN be an issue in city centres, but not here.

If I had one criticism it would be that bathroom was very compact, but it was also the divider between my room and next room in the direction = good design!

Room Tip: Do be a bit wary of lower floor(s) smells from catering kitchens.

Excellent place to stay - perfect location for everything. On first impression Rose Street might seem like a back street, running parallel to Princes Street but it comes alive at night - with great pubs and buskers galore. The hustle and bustle continues throughout the day... as do the buskers. Great entertainment!

Plus points:

Central location, big room and friendly staff.

Negatives:

Very noisy from something banging on the roof all night. Shower lacked any pressure and it had a slightly odd smell in the hotel.

I wouldn't return.

Thank you for your review southernddave. We hope all our guests have a good night’s sleep with us so it is regrettable to learn of the noise disruption to your stay with us. We also expect all bathroom facilities to be in a good working condition and for any maintenance issues to be recorded and reported. Similarly, our cleaning staff are required to routinely check all our rooms and to notice any smells. We will air out any affected areas and notify the Hotel Manager if necessary. Our Hotel Manager will be made aware of your concerns so these issues can be addressed and feedback provided to the staff at the hotel.

Rose Street is just behind Princess Street and is buzzing with character. Travelodge is situated between bustling shops and bars but no sound of this can be heard in rooms. My room was very spacious, exceptionally clean and very comfortable.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to be on the centre of Edinburgh at a reasonable price!

Stayed here for a three night break. Check in was quick and easy, reception staff friendly and efficient.
Room 404 was large, comfortable, clean and well presented. Bathroom was enormous, had a great bath with a good overbath shower.
Room has recently been refurbished, pity they did not replace the windows when the work was done. Nearest I had to a complaint about the room.
Location is perfect, right in the centre of Edinburgh, only minutes away from Princes St. and the rail and bus stations.
Could certainly recommend staying here and will return.

Two nights right in the centre of edinburgh in a huge very clean room for £23 per night - what's not rave about. This hotel has a fantastic city centre location near Waverley station just off Princes St in a pedestrianised street so also quiet. We did not find anywhere amazing for breakfast but there is a very pleasant Pret a Manger with lots of seating just round the corner in Hanover St. the hotel is also two steps away from Jamie's Italian where we had a very pleasant meal in attractive ex-Assembly rooms surroundings. However there is masses of choice for food for all budgets all very close by. Our room was huge on a corner of the building so lots of natural light. There was a bit of a problem with the shower in that water was only tepid (they allegedly had a boiler problem) but at £23 a night, it seems churlish to mark them down for this. Would definitely stay here again.
