Went on the Friday evening prior to the Calcutta Cup a party of 6 of us and although the restaurant was very crowded and busy we had a superb value for money meal. Genuine bistro food and other guests were astonished by their fish - a shared dish including lobster which they could not finish! Wizard starters and great flavoursome steaks, wine excellent value for money and much consumed - to the degree we were presented with another as a gift. For a restaurant in the centre of the city it really is fantastic value - go and try it!!

We have been a few times with family and friends and it never fails to disappoint, food is great, love the fresh salad, bread and olives that are served whilst you wait, Portions are big and the choice is good. Love the lobster which is reasonably priced and delicious. Great value lunches. great choice of wine.

Did you realy mean "never disappoints ?" or should I embrace your brilliant sarcasm ?
En tout cas, I take your point as great compliments. Merci beaucoup!

Party of 13 visited 8/2/14 having booked a month in advance and been assured they could cope - they couldn't. We had to wait 20 minutes for our pre booked table. We were really squashed in and eventually got more space only after complaining to the Manager. His excuse was they were very busy so we explained we knew it would be busy (evening of Calcutta Cup) hence we booked a month in advance. The service was very slow and slovenly. One of our party never got his main course and the vegetables we ordered never appeared. When we asked for the bill we pointed out all our complaints and reminded them of the missing items. The manager put all the missing items on the bill and stated that as we had ordered them we must pay for them! He took some persuading to take them off. We also complained about the Gents loo. Filthy soaking wet floor and no soap or towels. The manager said he was too busy to do anything.
A dreadful evening. None of our party or their friends will ever return.

Not many reviews put a smile on my face. But when I read that you or your friends will never come back after such exaggerations, it does just that! Thank you so much

I have been to this restaurant many times for lunch and have nothing but praise for its rustic french charm. You will not get better value or quality right in the heart of Edinburgh...a little hidden gem. Even at Xmas they only raised their lunch price slightly and compensated by given you an extra course!!! Go if you like good food without the frills, but done with french flair!!!!

After getting a recommendation from a colleague, I visited with a friend on a Tuesday night for a late supper. We started with a glass of Prosecco which was well priced, then arrived bread, olives and dressed salad leaves. As a result we didn't order a starter! My baked Portobello mushroom with Goats cheese and pesto was very flavoursome, and nicely presented. My friend had the seafood kebab which she thoroughly enjoyed. There is a fair choice of wine, reasonably priced both French and other. The thing I really liked though was the atmosphere, the decor etc really reminded me of Paris! I would certainly go back.
