Came in for a meal with some friends. And this place has it all. It is cosy and a bit quirky - wonderful ambience that makes you want to stay all evening and cancel the plan for nightcap in the bars nearby. Staff is very friendly, and attentive - but never over the top. Food is absolutely delicious and I was well happy over the vegan options. Cafe Nom De Plume should get a 5 star review easily. But. I am giving 4. Only because of the total lack of a vegan sweet. Which was very disappointing when the menu otherwise was so extensive with options. And the staff couldn't really explain why they didn't have one. I am a keen baker and homecook myself and vegan desserts are just so easy. It just felt slightly lazy not to offer one. Stick at least one on the menu and this place owns Broughton Street!

We walked past this little jewel of a place and thought, hmmm that looks perfect for a good family dinner. It was withing strolling distance from our holiday accommodation and offered food that suited our mixed party.

After a day walking around Edinburgh, we were all ready for dinner. We arrived at the time booked and as our party entered the door, the manager ( I assume manager ) looked a little worried as the smaller people in our party entered.

3 Adults, followed by a 17,13,12 and a ravenous 11 year old.

Four of our party were under 18 and our table was an evening booking, under 18's are not allowed in pubs/premises past a cut off time, if they don't have a children's licence. Sadly the waitress who took our booking neglected to inform us of this fact.

We were now faced with an awkward situation, but the manager was great. Very apologetic and swiftly moved our party to the rear room and took our order, thus enabling our party to eat ( if a little hurriedly ) enjoy a good meal, and leave on-time so we were all winners!

The staff were truly lovely, we would certainly go again ... but maybe just a wee bit earlier.

You have to stop here, it such a nice friendly atmosphere. In truth I've stopped here more than once, especially during the whisky fringe. We had the Macoroni Cheese and it was really nice. And its homemade. Never had a bad visit
