“Warm Welcome!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

Having stayed in many B & B's and teally enjoying them, we were looking forward to what Thistle Dhu would be like. We stayed on two occasions, both on our inbound arrival in Edinburgh for two nights in the family room and on our outbound journey on the main level. Although the rooms are very small, there is nothingmto want for including iron/ironing board and hair dryer. John & Margaret were like old friends greeting us and made us feel right at home. Breakfasts were delicious and they were both generous with their time when it came to helping with directions, buses, explaining tours or whatever else we needed or wanted. Special kudos to John who was up extra early on our departure day to make sure we had some toast, coffee and cereal before our early. trip to the airport.....even though we told him to stay on bed! Well worth a stop here!

Stayed with Margaret and John in mid July for the Madonna concert at Murrayfield. Wished we could have stayed longer then one night as they made us feel so welcomed and it felt like staying with friends!

Our twin room on the ground floor had everything that we needed including hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen tv, ensuite shower room and free wifi.

Margaret kindly helped us out with bus times calling the bus company on our behalf. The frequent buses and cheap fares made it so easy to get in and out of the city centre. We actually walked back from Murrayfield after the show and although it was about a 3 mile walk, it didn't feel like it.

Breakfast next morning was superb - nothing was too much trouble for the hosts.

Would highly recommend staying here to anyone wanting a room in Edinburgh and I would definitely return if and when the chance arose.

Alison and I Have been visiting friends and family in the UK for many years. We try to visit every other year. In our travels all over we have stayed in many B&Bs. Several years ago we decided to try flying into Edinburgh instead of London. We found the Thistle Dhu web site. I called and spoke with John. I was truly impressed with his friendly, helpful and honest conversation! We reserved a room and upon our arrival were welcomed as if we were "old friends". We were shown to a beautiful, comfortable, clean en-suite bedroom. We have now had the pleasure of staying with John and Margaret, eight times. We feel as excited about visiting them today as we ever have (and that has been ever since we first met them)! We like to think of Margaret and John as not only our hosts, but also as friends!! We are very proud to recommend Thistle Dhu! Bill Cox, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Room Tip: We have never been disappointed with any of the rooms.

We stayed one night before departing for home, very close to the airport, but, in addition, a lovely place to stay. Margaret and John were extremely friendly and made us feel at home, cooked us a wonderful breakfast and directed us to the car return. The rooms are clean, well appointed with thoughtful touches, like the individual lights above the beds, and quiet, considering that the A8 is just outside the window. Our beds were comfy, parking was just outside the door and everything worked the way Bed and Breakfasts should. Well worth a visit, we would certainly reccommend it. Thank you, Margaret and John.

We booked this B&B for 1 night on the outward leg of a trip abroad, thanks to its close proximity to Edinburgh Airport - like previous reviewers we were absolutely delighted with Thistle Dhu. A very comfortable house in a nice area, with extremely hospitable owners John and Margaret who couldn't have been nicer to us or more helpful. - only a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre, but there are several good places to eat within easy walking distance including the Toby Carvery recommended by John & Margaret which we found to be first class.
All the ingredients required for a great B&B are to be found here - a spotlessly clean and spacious room, a very comfortable bed, good quality TV, free wifi which worked well, an excellent bathroom and shower, a first class Scottish breakfast cooked to order and served by the nicest, friendliest couple you could wish to meet!
We will certainly come back here again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of an equally high standard.

We stayed here the night before we left the country and were very glad we did. It's very close to the airport, yet buses to downtown were available just a few yards up the street. Very nice, clean, and quiet (considering it's on a major road). The only thing I would recommend is to print out the email agreement you have stating the price and what it comes with. We made reservations a few months ahead of time but since that time, the prices went up. It was a good thing we had the original email stating the price to us (and that it included breakfast). There was no issue but we would have been charged the new higher rater or gone without breakfast if he had not thought to bring the original email.

Stayed for one night at Johns and Margarets lovely house. We had chosen it because of it's proximity to the airport, but it turned out it only took us about 15 min by bus to the town centre. Perfect! The bedrooms were really nice and comfortable; you could hardly hear the traffic outside. Delicious breakfast and a nice chat afterwards with our amiable hosts. Thanks again for a very pleasant stay and have a wonderful time on your cruise! Peter and Carita (driving the Daimler from Sweden).
