“A Lovely Georgian Conversion”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

THe Guest House was delightful. The staff was excellent especially Claudia-who was exceedingly helpful in finding a tour for us to the Highlands and Loch Ness last minute. The tour left very early and she arranged for an early breakfast even though they weren't open for breakfast yet. Very pleased with its location within walking distance to the Edinburgh Castle, parks, convenience store, the Old City, Hop on Hop Off Tours etc. I would recommend this hotel. Breakfast was a also good-they had continental, and traditional Scottish breakfast that included Hagis (dont ask what it is, just eat it! :))

The quadruple room was in the basement so not much light crept in. The bathroom was quite large and modern but the drain in the shower was quite clogged, we had to borrow a plunger. Apparently, they knew it could be clogged. Otherwise it was a comfortable stay.:)

Room Tip: request for rooms in higher floors, the basement rooms are quite dim. No lift, so those with luggage...

Although the Queens Guest House has some of the issues one would associate with an old converted home, none rise to a significant level. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the location couldn't be better. The quality of the breakfast isn't haute cuisine but still acceptable.

Visiting Edinburgh for one night to attend a Pink Martini concert at Usher Hall, we were looking for a hotel that was a) in a prime location, b) stylish, and c) representing good value for money. In The Queen's Guest House, Queen's Street, Edinburgh....we got all three, and so much more! Within easy walking distance of Waverely Station, this establishment is a beautiful example of Georgian simplicity. The house is exquisitely decorated and furnished. We shared a family room - it was beautifully appointed - immaculate and very stylish. We could happily have stayed longer - breakfast came far too soon. That said, it was a wonderful breakfast, served by very efficient, warm and attentive staff. On previous trips, we have stayed in some of the 'larger' and - allegedly - more prestigious hotels, and been seriously short - changed. I have to say, The Queen's Guest House takes some beating. It is perfect if your priority is simply somewhere beautiful to stay.

Room Tip: The location is such, that I don't think it matters which room you are in. The hotel overlooks a...

We stayed in Room 9, on the ground floor to the rear of the hotel. The room & bathroom was very clean and tidy, excellent shower. Breakfast was really good too, despite the mis-communication with the staff, with English not being their first language. It's a shame that there isn't a formal reception desk, we were waiting in the hall way to check out with a lady in the kitchen! We thought overall this was a very nice place to stay for a short break in Edinburgh.

Overall hotel is adequate, clean, refurbished, lovely staff and okay breakfast. However our stay was ruined by being put in the basement in room 4, there are 2 more rooms on this level I think they were 2 and 3. The window looked out on to an enclosed small area below street level littered with cigarette butts, tissues and other rubbish blown there from up above. The room was gloomy even with the lights on. The room was underneath the kitchen, next to the staff bathroom and just along the hall from the managers office, we were awake until late in the night with staff in and out of the office and using the bathroom, and then woken very early as staff started work in the kitchen and the office. The room also had the added feature of a green fire escape light above the door inside the room which could not be switched off leaving the room bright eerie green all night . This room should not be a guest room, the kitchen should be in the basement with the office and staff toilets, guests should be upstairs with daylight and a room quiet enough to sleep in!
No idea why they have this topsy- turvey lay out, MADNESS!
Will not return.

Room Tip: Check you are not going in the basement, rooms 2,3,4.
