“An Excellent Alternative to the Also-Excellent Balmoral”
Reviewed March 9, 2011

If you dig deeply, you find that Edinburgh is fortunate to have a large number of excellent accomodations, but in the end I chose to split my time between the Balmoral and the Missoni...giving a taste of old-world and new-style luxury. The two hotels are really apples and oranges because they are so different in their approach...though both gave me truly top-drawer service.

I'm a terribly light sleeper but slept well at the Missoni and didn't have issues with pipe noises nor the hallway and adjacent room noises some have mentioned. Luxury here is more in terms of materials, colors, and design...and I personally appreciated the design and the quality of the electronics.

Breakfast was vast and varied, the bar packed with interesting types, and other excellent foodie options close by.

For plush luxury and serenity the Balmoral is your best bet....For more avant-garde style and local hipsters the Missioni is the way to go. Personally, I enjoyed both and would gladly return to either.

Just returned from a weekend break staying here and it over delivered on our expectations. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a Suite (nice start) and it was simply fantastic. Inside the decor was funky & fashionable and the views were stunning, better than we remember from the Balmoral. The extras, such as courtesy minibar (wine, beer, coke etc) and in-room movies, were also a welcome touch. We also ate lunch in the restaurant (fixed price for 2 or 3 courses) which was good value & delicious. Lovely selections of wines too.
We had read about excess noise, but didn't experience this and slept well. Just like any hotel, Its not a sound proof environment though.
If you're looking a for different style hotel that is well positioned for the castle & in easy walk to the main shopping streets, you'll not better this.

We recently stayed at Hotel MIssoni, Edinburgh just for 1 night. Everything about the hotel was first class!

the biggest stand out was by far the staff! everyone from the front office staff, to the bar to the restaurant were friendly and very informative about everything.

We had booked a Maggiore room which is the next level up from standard, the main difference between these and the standard rooms was basically the location of the room in the building and we got alcoholic drinks in the mini bar which is all free by the way.

We had a room on the 4th floor which had fantastic panoramic views towards the castle and the west of Edinburgh. The room itself was not huge but very functional. the bathroom was first class, there is no bath, but to be honest i dont think this is a major issue as i would rarely use it in a hotel anyway, instead there was a great large walk in rain shower which was amazing!

Everything in the rooms right down to the bath towels was missoni which was a great touch.

We ate dinner in the hotel and this was also fantastic! our waitress, Anna was superb and very knowledgeable about the food. Breakfast again was superb with a great range of Italian cakes and pastries.

Overall we loved our stay at Missoni, i would definently recommend the hotel to any of my friends.

Post modern looking hotel right on the Royal Mile. We arrived by car and found ourselves having to loop back around to the hotel as there was no space in the tiny set down bay and no staff to direct at all (the door staff are seldom around). A simple lap around the block in this location isnt simple and takes 15mins. Check in a bit disorganised and chaotic.

Room modern and funky style with nice touches like free soft drinks and good movie selection. Main problem for us was that we had a connecting room, and for our second night the noise from tv next door was awful. i have never had such a bad nights sleep... the most paper-like walls ever.

Recommend the hotel for first timers to Edinburgh - but if you get a connecting room change from it! Also there is no parking, so valet is a must at 25 pounds a day, and even that is limited.

I stayed on Sunday the 27th of Feb (Room 123). The Hotel is in a great location, very stylish and the staff all seemed friendly and welcoming. The room itself was very clean and ample size. Checking was very easy, they give two free items of pressing (Very good idea for suit's) and a complementary Mini-Bar, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent and they have certainly forged their own identity and way of doing things, which is nice. The room service menu was limited and after 10pm on a sunday was almost non-existant. Which was poor, I would expect a hotel of this quality to have a decent "night" menu.

Despite the obvious thought that has gone into the design of the hotel, I found the level of noise in the hotel was not good for sleeping! Firstly I could hear people talking in the corridors and rooms next door, although they where not exactly shouting, in addition to that there where numerous "Pipe" noises all evening. It's a real shame they did not soundproof the room as everything else was excellent, I am in two minds if I would stay there again, although for Business travel a good nights sleep is the key. I would advise people to check it out, but maybe on a weekend when you don't have to be up early for work, or maybe I just got a bad room!

Missoni is a gorgeous hotel. From our arrival to departure we received five star treatment from all the staff. The bar is fabulous; even even returned for afternoon tea there on a cold Saturday afternoon. I love Edinburgh but this time around I have to say that the hotel was the highlight of the weekend.

I am pleased with the hotel staff for there true hospitality. Its was during winter where in Edinburgh there was no hotel rooms available because of some planned conference. Really tried with the major ones in the city however when approached this hotel - I got a initial response saying "No availability" looking at my condition they tried there best and got me a room which is implausible from a customer prospective. Outstanding.
